Chapter 1 Introduction Background of Information As a major virus outbreak in the 21st century, the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has led to unprecedent hazards mental globally. While psychological support is being provided to patients and healthcare workers, the general publics' mental health requires significant attention as well, Even though there are empirical studies on covid-19 and mental health, s far, there were just few systematic reviews about the impact of covid-19 on mental health. Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) was found initially in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China on December 31, 2019 and it continues to be a pandemic, It infected huge number of people and caused deaths around the world while showing no signs of slowing down. Based on this fact, many countries had applies physical distancing and closed public places to curd the transmission. On the other hand, physical distancing has impacted mental health by depriving social contact, especially adolescents in which it is vulnerable age group to develop negative mental health impairment because they are very sensitive to psychological and special transformation. Physical distancing had led individuals to cut off interaction unintentionally because they had the tendencies to avoid conversation in order to limit meetings. The rapidly evolving situation has drastically altered people's lives, as well as multiple aspects of the global, public and economy. The uncertainties and fears associated with the virus outbreaks, along with mass lockdowns and economics recession are predicted to lead to increase in mental disorders. Such widespread are associated with adverse mental health consequences. Taken together, there is an urgent call for more attention given to public mental health and policies to assist people though this challenging time. Statement of the Problem The aim of the study is to determine mental health outcomes during pandemic induced lockdowns. An additional purposes is to identify factors that are associated with mental illness. Research Questions: 1. How do you cope up with the new normal? 2. Have you moved house since COVID-19 started? 3. Have yo been diagnosed with COVID-19? 4. Has your mental health been impacted? How? 5. Before COVID-19, were you receiving support for mental health condition? 6. Are you currently self-isolating? The findings of this study may be of significance to enhance our understanding how the COVID-19 pandemic Significance affects adolescents' mental
of the Study health. Findings suggest that
public health initiatives should target adolescent without social support, and who has existing psychological distress. To the Students, The result may help them deal with the future distress they might encounter. To the Parents, The result may serve as a guide to fully give support to their children in terms of their well-being. This will give them awareness about the mental health condition of thier children and to regularly check it. To the Administrator, The result may give them awareness and do some actions that may help students on how they should avoid being involved with it. Scope and Delimitation A research study on the impact of COVID-19 on the adolescents' mental health. Exclusion criteria comprise of the study that include corresponding with age group extending below and the adolescent age range 13-19 years old.
