Cleanse our Mind during the Pandemic

Severe shortages of resources for testing and treatment and for protecting
responders and health care providers from infection, unpredictable prognoses, large and
growing financial losses, and conflicting messages from authorities are among the major
stressors that undoubtedly will contribute to widespread emotional distress and
increased risk for mental illness associated with Covid-19. It is also very important to be
aware of these emotional risk during the pandemic and coping with them to prevent any
further casualties.

The Covid-19 pandemic served a huge toll in the world and with it affects the
health, safety, and well-being of an individual. These effects may result to a range of
emotional reactions and unhealthy behaviors such as distress, stigmas, and excessive
substance use. Extensive research in disaster mental health has established that
emotional distress is present in affected populations especially those affected by the
Covid-19 pandemic. Some groups are more vulnerable to these emotional effects.
People who contract the disease, those who are heightened risk for it, and those who
have other preexisting medical issues can likely be the target by these psychiatric
effects. Beyond the stress inherited by the illness itself, mass decline to the economy
and financial problems were the cause of distress to those who are struggling to survive.
Stressing about how to make income and support the family during this crisis can lead to
emotional illnesses. It revealed that many people that are quarantined shows numerous
emotional outcomes such as depression, irritability, insomnia, fear, confusion, anger,
frustration, and boredom. Coping these during quarantine is a task and should be
practiced.

Proper knowledge and training regarding psychological issues is a must when

taking care of our mental health. Given that most Covid-19 cases will be identified and
treated by most of the medical workers, there is little to no mental health trainings given
by them. Therefore, it is up to ourselves to take care of our mental health. Study shows
that keeping ourselves busy during quarantine can ease the boredom and stress caused
by the pandemic. Taking on a hobby or learning new things can help take your mind off
the current crisis. Family bonding and exercising with them can help the feeling of
isolation during quarantine. There are tons of ways to take care of our mental health
during the pandemic and always keep in mind that everyone is fighting their own battle
during this crisis.

The Covid-19 is a deadly enemy by itself and without taking care of ourselves, we
are more likely to be a victim by it. Everyone has an important role during the crisis and
these can lead to different emotional outcomes. Supporting each other and monitoring
the psychological needs of ourselves can help overcome the risk. Activities that help in
easing the mind should be integrated into the general pandemic health care.
