CHAPTER I

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Waste mismanagement has serious environmental effect making the passage of

the Republic Act (RA) 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000,a
landmark environmental legislation in the Philippines. The law was crafted in response
to the looming garbage problems in the century. RA 9003 declares the policy of the
state in adopting a systematic, comprehensive and ecological solid waste management
program that ensures the protection of public health and the environment and the
proper segregation, collection, transport, storage, treatment and disposal of solid waste
through the formulation and adoption of best environmental practices. Moreover, it
illustrates the potentials and benefits of recycling not only in addressing waste
management problems but also in alleviating poverty. RA 9003 was passed by the
Philippine Congress on December 20, 2000 and was subsequently approved by the
Office of the President on January 26, 2001. It contains seven chapters subdivided into
66 sections setting out policy direction for an effective solid waste management
program in the country.

aesthetics, other environmental considerations, and public attitudes. The act provides
for a comprehensive ecological solid waste management program by creating the
necessary institutional mechanisms and incentives, appropriating funds, declaring
certain acts prohibited and providing penalties.

The research paradigm that guided this study is shown in figure .It follows the Input-
Process-Output Research.
Figure 1 describes the conceptual framework of the study wherein the Input consist of
the Proper waste disposal management in Maypangdan National High School, The
proper waste disposal method they use.
Students are the respondents for this study who are studying in Maypangdan National
High school in proper waste disposal management in barangay Maypangdan .Out of
800 students in Maypangdan National High School we chose only Grade 10 students
shall take part in the study.
The output is proper waste disposal management to the chosen Grade 10 students in
Maypangdan National High School to able to determine its results, a statistical mean
shall be used in discussing the results of the study.

thesis statement
CHAPTER III

The research design

A survey research design shall be used in the study. A survey research design
collects information from group of people in order to describe some aspects or
characteristics (abilities, opinions, attitude, beliefs, and/or knowledge) of the population
of which that group is a part

Population
Based on the data given by the barangay health workers, there are 216
students of said chosen grade 10 level, who are engaged in proper waste disposal
management of Maypangdan National High School; practicing work emulating. The
research have chosen the grade 10 level as the respondents will be conducting their
study because grade 10 is one of the role model for junior high school in a reason that
they are also a higher level from Grade 7 to grade 10, they know how to follow the rules
and regulations of the school of Maypangdan National High school.

Sample size
A total of 178 students of grade 10 level shall take the part in the study. Only
12 student’s representative per section shall given the questionnaire.

Sampling Technique
In determining as what to what sampling technique will be use, the researchers have
chosen non probability sampling specifically purposive sampling because the researches are in
need of respondents who could correspond to the objectives of the researchers.
