SECTION - A
Questions 1 to 5 :
(A) Both assertion and reason are correct statements, and reason is the correct explanation of the assertion.
(B) Both assertion and reason are correct statements, but reason is not the correct explanation of the assertion.
(C) Assertion is correct, but reason is wrong statement.
(D) Assertion is wrong, but reason is correct statement.
(1) Assertion: The two strands in double strand helix structure of DNA are complementary to each other
Reason: Disulphide bonds are formed between specific pairs of bases. 1
(2) Assertion: A low level of noradrenaline in the body causes depression.
Reason: antidepressant drug catalyse the degradation of noradrenaline. 1
(3) Assertion: Presence of nitro group at ortho or para position increses the reactivity of haloarenes towards
nucleophilic substitution.
Reason: Nitro group, being an electron withdrawing group decreases the electron density over the benzene ring.1
(4) Assertion: The acidic strength of halogen acids varies in the order HF>HCl>HBr>HI
Reason: The bond dissociation enthalpy of halogen acids decreases in the order HF>HCl>HBr>HI 1
(5) Assertion: All collisions of reactant molecules lead to product formation.
Reason: only those collisions in which molecules have correct orientation and sufficient kinetic energy leads to
the formation of compound. 1
