Detailed Lesson Plan

English 8

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the discussion, the students should be able to:

a. perform or dramatize a scene base on the concept of abstract nouns provided;


b. state what essential belief about life the author is trying to convey on the following chapters;
c. note important words or phrases from the following chapters that are related to the fundamental
virtues and;
d. identify the chapter on which the following quotations are anchored.

MOTIVATION

(post the following words on the board)

“Okay, Class I want you to act out a scene that (The students will form 6 groups)
shows a concept of abstract nouns such as: love,
manners, fearlessness, obedience, conformity and
effortlessness. I’ll give you 3 minutes to prepare.
Later on, those who will cooperate well will be
given extra points on our quiz”

“Okay, class are you done?” “Yes, Ma’am”

B. Lesson Proper
Presentation of the Lesson

“We performed the concepts of abstract nouns a


while back because it has a connection with our
topic for today.”

“Our topic for today is The Analects of


Confucius and it was translated by James Legge”

“Before we proceed to the discussion of the


analects, let us first know the background of
Confucius and the one who translated the
analects”

Who can read their background? Anyone in the Legge, James (20 December 1815 – 29
class? November 1897)

Legge was born at Huntly, Aberdeenshire, the


youngest in a family of seven. He was a
Scottish sinologist, missionary, and scholar, best
known as an early and prolific translator
of Classical Chinese texts into English. Legge
served as a representative of the London
Missionary Society in Malacca and Hong
Kong (1840–1873) and was the first Professor of
Chinese at Oxford University (1876–1897).
Confucius (551 B.C. to 479 B.C.), also known as
Kong Qui or K’ung Fu-tzu, was a Chinese
philosopher, teacher and political figure. His
teachings, preserved in the Analects, focused on
creating ethical models of family and public
interaction and setting educational standards. After
his death, Confucius became the official imperial
philosophy of China, which was extremely
influential during the Han, Tang and Song
dynasties.

DISCUSSION

“So, I have here some sayings that I got from the


internet. These are from Walt Disney and these
sayings shows some fundamental virtues of an
analects.”

(Flash the slides using PowerPoint presentation)

“Who would like to answer what the following


sayings like to imply or to convey?

(Discuss what Analects is, The Analects of


Confucius, the four fundamental virtues and the
concepts of the analects.)

D. GENERALIZATION
Since we have discussed already the The Analects
of Confucius and mentioned a while back that an
Analects is a collections of excerpts. Kindly note
down the important words or phrases from chapters
1 – 16 that relates to the concepts of the analects.
Place the concept beside the noted words or
phrases.”

E. APPLICATION
(Group Activity)

I want you to look for your comfortable pair and


answer the following questions. Each pair should
explain their answers in front.

1. Why is it delightful to have friends coming from


distant quarters? “It is delightful to have friends coming from a
distant because you don’t have to fake your
treatment towards them and your individual
differences sometimes makes you a good pack or
duo, and besides you still find certain spot for them
that no one can ever take away because you have
been a family to them.”
2. How should a youth treat his elders when at
home and when abroad? “Young ones should treat their elders with respect
no matter what situation you are in, no matter who
they are and no matter how awful they are to you.”
3. Why should a youth be honest and truthful, and
why should he cultivate the friendship of the good? “We youngs one should cultivate the good in
ourselves because I strongly believe that good
things happen when you distant yourself in
negativity and the life you that you have if you
have goodness in yourself is a life worth living.”

IV. EVALUATION

Identify the chapter on which the following quotations by Confucius are anchored. Write your answer on
a 1 whole sheet of paper.

1. “Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it.”

2. “Respect yourself and others will respect you.”

3. “Isn’t a pleasure to study and practice what you have learned?”

4. “ To study and not to think is a waste. To think and not to study is dangerous.”

5. Wherever you go, go with all your heart.”

6. “To be wealthy and honored in an unjust society is a disgrace.”

7. “Hold faithfulness and sincerity as first principles.”

V. ASSIGNMENT

Note down the difficult words seen in every chapter and give the connotative meaning of it. Place
your answers on a 1 whole sheet of paper.
