Shaft seals for pillow blocks will be of the combination labyrinth and lip, or labyrinth and labyrinth
type, generally known as "Taconite". Bearing houses will be equipped with grease nipples.
Steel safety guards will be installed around the tail pulleys and the belt take-up pulleys.
Idlers and idler frames
The belt conveyors will have three-roll troughed idlers at the load carrying side
All idlers will be fitted with ball bearings, dust sealed, greased and sealed for life.
Idler spacing will be such that the belt-sag is less than 2%. At loading points, special impact idlers will be
used and spacing will be reduced in order for good contact between the loading shoe and the belt.
Alternatively, impact tables to support the belt between carrying idlers will be used.
Adequate provisions for belt tracking adjustment will be provided.
Idler frames will be bolted to the belt frame with steel bolts, washers and nuts. Idler frames will have slotted
holes to allow for adjustment of belt alignment.
Belt take-up will be by counterweight (gravity) or screw spindle system (for short belt conveyors). Gravity
take-up systems will have guiding rails and have adequate provisions to prevent over travel (in case of belt
breaking). Weight boxes for gravity take-ups will have drain holes. Covers of weight boxes will be inclined to
avoid accumulation of product.
Stainless steel screws and nuts will be used for screw take-ups. Screw type take-up systems will incorporate
locking nut arrangements.
Belt frames
Belt frames will consist of channel stringers and supports. The frames will be rigid and cross connections
and bracings will be incorporated. Supports of belt frames will be welded to the channel stringers and
bolted to the supporting floor and/or convey or bridge.
Supporting frames of head and tail pulleys of belt conveyors longer than 15.0 meters will be supported
independently from the belt frame and be designed to withstand the belt tension forces.
Drive shaft and pillow block support frames will include stop bars and alignment adjusting bolts.
Belt cleaners
Belts will be equipped with heavy-duty adjustable spring loaded finger scraper type belt cleaners mounted
directly behind the discharge pulley, inside the discharge chutes.
To minimize the risk of slippage between drive pulley and conveyor belt an additional V-plough (Macmet
Make) scraper will be installed at the return side of the belt before the tail pulley.
All chutes will be constructed of (stainless) steel plate and will be rigidly supported from adjacent conveyor
structures. They will be fabricated via continuous welding or bolted with gasket seals at joints.
Belt loading shoes will be equipped with side skirts and adjustable rubber strips. The minimum length of
the belt loading shoe will be 5 (five) times the belt width.
Chutes
1) Guided transfer chutes suitably designed with a minimum valley angle of 65° will be

provided at all transfer points for transfer of cargo from one conveyor to the next in the
direction of belt travel.
2) Chutes will be made of mild steel and will have minimum thickness of 10mm.
3) Chutes will be provided with replaceable type liner plates. Such liner plates will be of
abrasion resistant type or impact resistant type depending on whether the surface is
subjected to friction or impact. Liner will be fixed by countersunk bolts.
4) Hoods will be provided over chutes having provision for fixing dust suppression system
as per requirement.
5) Long chutes guiding flow from considerable height will be provided with impact plates
wherever change in direction of flow takes place. Hinged inspection doors (generously
sized) of leak proof construction will be provided for access / maintenance purpose, at
approachable heights, of the chutes.
6) Chute jamming detectors will be provided on all chutes. The detectors will be so
located or protected that they do not come in contact with regular flow of material. The
detector will, also, be protected against deposit of the particles causing false alarm or
stoppage of the conveyors.
7) All conveyor discharge chute will be designed in such a way that snub pulley is covered.
Two mobile hoppers with feeders at Berth 1 and one Mobile hopper at Berth 2 to receive materials from
mobile cranes and feed it on to Quay Belt conveyors.
The belt feeder provided at the hopper bottom will be reversible and it will feed materials either to
Quay belt conveyor or directly on trucks to facilitate truck loading option. The height of the hopper
supports will be designed in such a way to load materials on trucks.
Mobile Hoppers
Mobile hoppers will be designed to hold 2 to 3 times of grab volume. Hopper and liner materials will be
designed to withstand impact loads and abrasion.
Hopper will be supported with steel structures with staircase and platforms for maintenance and inspection.
Hopper will be Tyre mounted with dual drive (Electrical and Diesel) with support pads.
Hopper Feeder will be of reversible Belt type with adequate length and fitted discharge hopper to feed the
materials either to Belt conveyor or on to trucks. Variable speed drives will be provided to control the feed.
One reversible Belt conveyor is required at Berth 1 to receive materials from Mobile hopper. Coal conveyed
by reversible belt conveyor will be discharged at Berth 2 Belt conveyor and then to belt conveyors running
towards power plant.
Conveyors required beyond Port boundary is excluded from our scope of supply
Clinker, Gypsum, slag and Limestone conveyed by reversible belt conveyor (opposite direction) will be
discharged to Cement plant conveyor.
Reversible belt conveyor will be fed at any point on the horizontal portion of the conveyor. Impact table will
be considered as part of mobile hopper discharge chute to reduce impact on reversible conveyor belt and
idlers.
Steel cord belt may be considered to manage higher capacity, impact loads and reduce elongation due to belt
tension. It will minimise take up length and overcome space constraint for take up.
Variable speed drive or Fluid coupling will be considered to manage starting torque of the conveyor. Deck
plate of 3 mm under belt will be considered to avoid spillage of materials on floor.
One Belt conveyor is required at Berth 2 to receive coal either from Berth 2 unloading hopper or from Berth
1 reversible Belt conveyor. The Berth 2 Belt conveyor will in turn discharge Coal to belt conveyors (2 nos. in
series) running towards Power plant.
The specification and technical requirement of Coal conveyors are given below.
