CHAPTER III

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

3.1.1 Research Design

Each research have their own plan in getting data easily as Kerlinger

(1986) said that “research design is a plan, structure and strategy in investigation

so conceived as to obtain answers to research question or problem”.

This research uses descriptive qualitative method. Burns and Grove

(2003:19) describe a qualitative approach as “a systematic subjective approach

used to describe life experiences and situations to give them meaning”. Literature

about research method tell us that qualitative research fits many purposes in order

to explain and to be ineffective in exploring the realist reasons of understanding

the phenomena or the situation, and they have to construct their research method

and questions to make better understanding of their work more strongly than

quantitative method research (Richards, 2012).

The phenomena that was described here is students learning style in

English classroom at MAN Insan Cendekia. The object of the study is the students

grade eleventh.

3.2 Source of Data

The source of the data in this study is MAN Insan Cendekia especially in

eleventh grade students. However, the researcher found that this school has a good

motivation and achievement to attract the students in every area or course

especially in English. That would easily complete the data of this study which the

topic is English classroom interaction.

3.3 Data Collection Procedure

The researcher collects the data through the following steps:

1. The researcher need to interview with the teacher and also read the article,

journal and books that related to this study about learner’s style to get

understanding about students learning styles in English classroom

interaction.

2. Then, the researcher doing the observation about the students learning

style in the English classroom interaction to find out kinds and also the

implementation of learners styles.

3. Finally, the researcher will give the questionnaire as the instrument based

on the learner’s style for the students to support the data and analysis for

doing the conclusion.

3.4 Research Instrument

In this research the researcher uses questionnaire. The questionnaire is

needed to collect the data about students’ learning style. Meanwhile, observation

are used to looking for the implementation between learners style in English

classroom interaction.

3.5 Data Analysis Procedure

Bogdan (2009) stated that “data analysis is the process of systematically

searching and arranging the interview transcripts, field notes and other materials

that you accumulate to increase your own understanding of them and to enable

you to present what you have discovered to others”. To analyse the result of this

research, the researcher will find kinds of learner’s style in their process in

English classroom interaction. And then the researcher will analysis the

implementation of students learning style based on the questionnaire as the

research instrument. Finally, the researcher will get the conclusion of the research

about students learning style in English classroom interaction.
