3.00.00 GENERAL NOTES

3.01.00 These lighting notes and details shall be read and implemented in conjunction with the illumination
layout and working drawings.

3.02.00 Lighting system inside and outside plant units shall be designed taking into consideration the
desired illumination level, architectural arrangement, building dimensions including mounting
height, environmental conditions, ease of maintenance and reliability of the lighting distribution
network. The average illumination levels as mentioned in clause 6.14.4 of Section-III of contract
Spec KPO-07-WTS-001 shall be followed while designing the Lighting system for each area/
building.

3.03.00 lighting fixtures in the plant buildings shall generally be suspended from MS brackets, pipe
brackets, hangers, hooks, suspension pipes and chains. All mounting devices and accessories
shall be of adequate strength to support the lighting fittings safely.

3.04.00 All lighting fittings shall be mounted in proper alignment and correct mounting height so as to
maintain symmetry of the installation.

3.05.00 MCB boards, switches, socket outlets etc shall be mounted by means of MS brackets welded to
the building steel structures or fixed on concrete or brick column/wall with rawl / expansion anchor
bolts.

3.06.00 Connections from sub-circuits to individual lighting fittings shall be with flexible copper conductor
cables.

3.07.00 Single core 660V grade copper conductor, PVC Insulated wires of minimum size 2.5Sqmm shall be
used for point wiring in all buildings and structures. The phase and neutral conductors shall have
different colour of insulation (Red, Yellow or Blue for phase and black for neutral) so as to be easily
distinguishable.

3.08.00 The entire metallic conduit system whether embedded or exposed if used shall be electrically
continuous and properly grounded.

3.09.00 Identification marks shall be painted on all the lighting distribution boards, MCB boards, switch
boxes, socket outlets etc.

3.11.00 Separate conduits shall be used for wiring, lighting circuits of different lighting distribution system
such as normal AC lighting / emergency AC Lighting systems.
3.12.00 Wires of different phases shall not run in the same conduit, but if required wires originating from
different circuits but belonging to same phase (from same DB) can be run in same conduit along
with respective neutral wires.

3.13.00 Wires for lighting and socket outlets shall be run in separate conduits.

3.14.00 All Supporting/ Mounting steel brackets, hooks, clamps, saddles, Junction Boxes, Pull boxes, Pull
Boxes, accessories etc required for lighting installation shall be painted with two coats of red oxide
primer and one coat of synthetic enamel paint for indoor installation and two coats of primer and
two coats of synthetic enamel paint for outdoor installation.

3.15.00 Wires/ cables shall be spliced only in Junction boxes.

3.16.00 Point wiring shall be considered for all manned areas.

3.17.00 In Electrical Room, PLC/Computer Room, Control / Office Room areas with or without false
ceiling, Conduit wiring shall be done above false ceiling (Concealed behind false ceiling). In rooms
with false ceiling, conduit Vertical drops for Switch boxes / Socket outlets shall be concealed on the
wall.

3.18.00 Cabling above false ceiling shall be done through GMS conduit using PVC Copper wire. GMS
conduit shall be used in hazardous areas also.

3.19.00 In offices and other areas such as pump houses, generally PVC Conduit wiring using PVC copper
wire shall be used. PVC Conduits shall also be provided in corrosive atmosphere. In areas such as
pump houses where armoured cable is used for lighting wiring, these cables shall be directly
clamped / cheated along the walls.

3.20.00 In main production shops as well as auxiliary units where mounting height of the light fittings
exceeds 8 meters from the floor level, Illumination shall be provided by means of High bay fixture
(Integral type – HPSV). And in Medium and low bay areas (Ceiling height below 8 Mtrs) Medium
bay fittings or Well glass fixture or fluorescent light fittings shall be used.

3.21.00 In ECR, Pump houses and other critical areas within Battery Limit, emergency lighting shall be
provided to maintain a minimum illumination level for important plant operation during power
failure.
