It shows that these results conclude that the most acidic vinegar sample is the Marca Piña, while the next
one is the Silver Swan and the most basic vinegar is the Datu Puti, due to the fact that phenolphthalein is
colorless in acidic solutions and pinkish in basic solutions, so the more NaOH needed to achieve the end
point, the more acidic the solution is and the less the NaOH needed to achieve the endpoint, the more
basic the solution it is. It easy to determine that all of the data obtained had small discrepancies between,
indicating the presence of errors in each trial.
According to Anwesha Rout, phenolphthalein is often used in acid-base solutions as an indicator
whereas it turns colorless into acidic solutions and pinkish in basic solutions. (Rout, 2018)
Due to this fact, it can be inferred that different vinegar solutions have different acetic acid
solutions because based on an experiment designed by Dr. Walter Scharf and Dr. Charles Malerich,
several vinegar solutions do need different amounts of NaOH solution to achieve its end point since the
amount of acetic acid varies. The more NaOH needed, the less basic the solution is, hence saying that it
has more acid content. Another important concept in this experiment is concentration which directly
refers to the composition of a solution and can be expressed using the ratio of solute/solvent or
solute/solution. (Scharf, Malerich, n.d.)
