Introduction

My interview about biosensors involved a physician who works in a public healthcare

center. The physician use biosensors in diagnosing and preventing different diseases, such as

cancer and blood sugar. To come up with an informative report, I designed relevant questions,

which could encourage the physician to provide detailed information about the biosensors. The

questions include:

1. What is the condition of the biosensor?

2. How long have you (the physician) been using the biosensors?

3. What are your (physician’s) concerns about using the biosensors?

4. Do the biosensors perceive negative or positive effects on healthcare and daily lifestyle

based on their quality?

Findings

1. Conditions of the Biosensors

According to the physician, the biosensors are effective in improving healthcare services,

especially in laboratories. Biometrics are helping the physician in diagnosing and treating

infectious diseases and microorganisms. Despite the effectiveness of the biosensors, the

physician explained some technological challenges affecting the biosensors. Following

technological development, the use of biosensors is not efficient in some areas of healthcare; for

example, a lack of essential laboratory equipment leads to the inefficiency of the biosensors

since physicians cannot follow procedures as required by the biosensors (Gaster et al., 2017).

Due to the inefficiency, the devices may not operate autonomously, leading to low reproducible

results. These challenges are associated with the current biomedical – R&D, which requires

highly integrated biosensors.

2. How Long Have the Biosensors Been Used?

The physician has been using the biosensors for five years, whereby he has gained

different experiences within the duration. In the first year, he developed a positive attitude

towards the biosensors due to their speed and reliability in diagnosing diseases, such as cancers.

The physician recognized the effectiveness of biosensors in controlling the spread of diseases,

understanding drug resistance surging, introducing vaccinations, and defining the healthcare

system (Gaster et al., 2017). As time went by, the physician began identifying the challenges of

biosensors, such as technological. However, the physician remained motivated towards using the

biosensors, following the collaborative efforts of healthcare professionals and technology

developers in improving the effectiveness.

3. Concerns

Although the physician is interested in the biosensors, he is concerned about the ability of

the biosensors to assess health status, progression and disease onset, and monitoring treatment

outcomes. In this sense, the biosensors are not useful in functioning under non-invasive methods;

thus, inadequate in achieving healthcare promotion, delivery, and research. Therefore, the

inefficiency of biosensors in operating under different conditions; for example, the biosensors

may not be relevant to the laboratories with inadequate equipment (Gaster et al., 2017). The

physician is also concerned about the sensitivity and specific methods required for the

functioning of the biosensors. In this case, the biosensors developers should ensure the flexibly

of biosensors to improve their performance.

4. Biosensors Perceive both Negative and Positive Effects on Healthcare

According to the physician, the biosensors contribute to the success of different diagnosis

processes. Biosensors technology is relatively cheap; thus, affordable to many patients. In this
sense, patients appreciate the successful treatment due to the affordability, according to the

physician.

On the other hand, biosensors have negative impacts on healthcare and daily lifestyle.

Sending patient samples for laboratory analysis takes long, leading to delayed treatments (Gaster

et al., 2017). Also, despite the effectiveness of biosensors in diagnosing, they cause severe

effects on patient’s health, such as fever and increased heart rate. These effects may lead to

potential risks, such as chronical diseases.
