Scholarship Essay

Hello, thank you for taking the time to review my application for this scholarship. My

name is Kendra Cekalla and I intend to pursue a career as a Dental Hygienist. As of right now, I

am considering the Dental Hygiene program at Saint Cloud Technical College. I have always

valued my education even from a young age. This is why I would be an excellent candidate for

this scholarship.

I excel academically and am highly involved in the programs throughout the Pierz

community. Over the course of my high school career, I have participated in Minnesota Honor

Society (MHS) and Volleyball. MHS has taught me about serving others, we clean ditches,

collect socks for the homeless, raise money for the food drive, host a blood drive, and clean up

after school events. These service activities have taught me about how important it is to give

back. In Volleyball, I gained knowledge on how to be a good teammate. Volleyball is very

heavily based on teamwork and communicating with your team. This is a skill that you will need

throughout your life, which is why I value it so much.

Another reason that I would be an excellent candidate for this scholarship is because of

my course history. I have always challenged myself academically, pushing myself to take college

classes. College classes taught me many skills that will help me in college and finish out my high

school career. Skills and other benefits that college classes taught me include, time management,

work ethic, and an opportunity to explore different interests.

After high school, I would like to go to college and get a degree in Dental Hygiene. My

mom works in the Dental industry, which is why I am so interested in the field. I always love

hearing her talk about what she does at work everyday. Growing up, I loved going to the dentist,

and was very intrigued at all the things they do there and just the environment itself was very
interesting to me. I credit my mom for inspiring me to go into the dental field, but also my love

for the medical field. I have always wanted to do something in the medical field, but never loved

the busy environment of a hospital. I love the idea of a small intimate clinic where I can do my

practice.

scholarship will benefit me going forward in college at a lower cost. I am an excellent candidate

for this scholarship because of my involvement in the community and because of my course

history.
