Essay – Why Law School?

I think that my desire to study Law comes simply from my personal indulgence in doing the
wright thing and from the thought of helping others, but the thing which really excites me the
most about studying this subject is the fact that I need to excel at using both practical and
intellectual skills in order to solve an issue.

I find myself to be quite open-minded and I developed a pleasure for wanting to protect
mine’s and other people’s rights, main reason why I also decided to have a career in the police
force. A lot of people want a job that matters. We all have to work, but most of us want that work
to mean something and make a difference. The incredible responsibility that comes with being a
police officer is a reward in and of itself. Officers do make a difference, and that's a great feeling,
even if it feels like a heavy burden at times.

Police officers often encounter people when they are at their worst: drug addicts, gang
members, thieves, spousal abusers, and people who drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs
are just a few examples. One of the most satisfying aspects of working as a law enforcement
officer is the unique opportunity you'll have to show these people a better way, they are usually a
captive audience and, if treated kindly and respectfully, they might listen to what you have to
say. How you treat the lowest criminal can play a huge role in whether she makes better life
choices in the future.

Therefor, since one of the main atribution I have as a police agent is making sure people
follow the law, it was only natural I continued my studies from the police school with a degree in
law university. Not only that studying law offers me the opportunity to develop a range of skills
and explore many aspects of human life, it also gives me the chance to sharpen my mind,
strengthen my understanding and deepen my experience across the full range of humanities and
social sciences. Thus acquiring both breadth of understanding and depth in the areas that interest
me the most.

Law should therefore appeal to those who want to develop both abstract thinking and
practical problem-solving. For me a law degree does not necessary means becoming a successful
lawyer but also a successful producer, politician, manager, journalist, diplomat or police officer;
a law degree equips you for almost any profession that requires intellectual strength combined
with a practical approach to the world, and that’s the exact reason I chose “Lucian Blaga”
University.
