Depletion of How is it an issue?
The ozone layer is an invisible layer of protection
ozone layer around the planet that protects us from the sun’s
harmful rays. Depletion of the crucial Ozone layer of
the atmosphere is attributed to pollution caused by
Chlorine and Bromide found in Chloro-floro carbons
(CFC’s). Once these toxic gases reach the upper
atmosphere, they cause a hole in the ozone layer,
the biggest of which is above the Antarctic. The
CFC’s are banned in many industries and consumer
products. Ozone layer is valuable because it
prevents harmful UV radiation from reaching the
earth. This is one of the most important current
environmental problem

Pollution Pollution of air, water and soil require millions of
years to recoup. Industry and motor vehicle exhaust
are the number one pollutants. Heavy metals,
nitrates and plastic are toxins responsible for
pollution. While water pollution is caused by oil spill,
acid rain, urban runoff; air pollution is caused by
various gases and toxins released by industries and
factories and combustion of fossil fuels; soil pollution
is majorly caused by industrial waste that deprives
soil from essential nutrients.

Biodiversity Human activity is leading to the extinction of species
and habitats and and loss of bio-diversity. Eco
systems, which took millions of years to perfect, are
in danger when any species population is
decimating. Balance of natural processes like
pollination is crucial to the survival of the eco-system
and human activity threatens the same. Another
example is the destruction of coral reefs in the
various oceans, which support the rich marine life.

Urbanization How is it an issue?
The impact of urban growth of the Metro Manila to
its urban environment relating on demography, solid
wastes problem and problems in water bodies as
well as air pollution and greenhouse gas emissionis
emphasized here in this study. The flood prone areas
within the Metro Manila is about 31%, most of the
risk areas located along creeks, river banks or
coastal areas.Metro Manila produces total garbage
equivalent to 25% of the national waste generation
in which about 17% is paper wastes and about 16%
are plastics
How is it an issue?
Land The continuing urbanization and industrialization of
Convertion the provinces nearby Metropolitan Manila and other
cities of the Philippines have resulted to the
continual decline in productive agricultural land.
This was brought about by the massive conversion
of agricultural lands to industrial, commercial and
residential purposes. In Laguna alone, rice area
decreased by more than 50 percent from 1971 to
1992. This was accompanied by a corresponding
annual decrease in rice production of about 21
percent. Similar situation occurred in Bulacan but of
smaller magnitude. Agricultural lands converted to
purposes mentioned above are formerly planted to
crops like rice, sugarcane and coconut.

How is it an issue?
Overpopulati Of all of the environmental challenges facing the
on planet today overpopulation is one that sometimes
slips under the radar. Issues like pollution, climate
change and water shortages all seem to take
precedence, but overpopulation is one of the main
contributors to many other environmental
issues.Overpopulation will place great demands on
resources and land, leading to widespread
environmental issues in addition to impacting global
economies and standards of living. The issue is
compounded by the difficulty in providing solutions
for this problem and misunderstanding of the causes
and effects of overpopulation.
HOW CAN WE RESOLVE THESE PROBLEMS?
Save our country by being
responsible in actions
SAVE especially when it comes to
the environment

Stop and reflect ourselves

STOP especially in making a family,
and consider all the factors.
