TEST I MULTIPLE CHOICE. Choose the correct answer in the four (4) given choices. Write the letter on
the space provided.

1. __________It is a circular bulb containing mercury vapor and inert gas with phosphor coating
inside
a. Fluorescent tube
b. Ballast
c. Frame
d. Lamp holder
2. _______It is an induction coil, which produces high voltage to start the lamp into operation. It
also limits the flow of current during the operation of the lamp
a. Lamp holder
b. Fluorescent tube
c. Frame
d. Ballast
3. _________It is a glow switch that opens and closes the circuit so as to produce a high voltage or
inductive kick across the bulb at the filament during the starting period.
a. Lamp holder
b. Starter
c. Cold cathode
d. Connecting wires
4. _________It is the metal housing of the whole fixture.
a. Support wires
b. Lamp holder
c. Frame
d. Screw cap
5. ____________ The point of connection of the fluorescent and starter.
a. Lamp holder
b. Ballast
c. Glass fuse enclosure
d. Electrical contacts
6. _____________ It requires starter (glow switch) and is pre-heated during starting. It uses a
ballast to produce high voltage to start the lamp into operation and to limit the flow of current.
a. Hot-cathode, rapid-start
b. Pre-heat starting, hot-cathode
c. Instant-starting, hot-cathode
d. Cold cathode
7. _____________It Requires high voltage in its operation. This lamp has electrodes made of
thimble-type iron. It is not pre-heated and does not require a starter for starting
a. Instant-starting, hot-cathode
b. Cold cathode
c. Instant-starting, hot-cathode
d. Hot-cathode, rapid-start
8. ______________The lamp cathode in the instant-start is not pre-heated. Sufficient voltage is
applied across the cathodes to create an instantaneous arc.
a. Pre-heat starting, hot-cathode
b. Cold cathode
c. Instant-starting, hot-cathode
d. Hot-cathode, rapid-start
9. _____________These are similar in construction to the preheat lamps; the basic difference is in
the circuitry.
a. Cold cathode
b. Hot-cathode, rapid-start
c. Pre-heat starting, hot-cathode
d. Instant-starting, hot-cathode
10. __________It is a form of electric discharge light source. It consists of a glass tube containing
mercury vapor at a low pressure and inert gas like argon and krypton.
a. Glass fuse enclosure
b. Coiled tungsten filament
c. Fluorescent Lamp
d. Large lamps

TEST II: Enumeration

1. Enumerate the nine elements used in manufacturing incandescent lamp. 9 Pts

2. Enumerate the (8) different parts of the light bulb. 8 Pts

3. Enumerate the three types of regular fluorescent lamp. 3 Pts

TEST III Applying Test (2 Pts each)

Below are unarranged procedures in assembling a 20 watts fluorescent lamp fixture. Arrange them in
proper order. Write your answer in a separate sheet of paper

1. Wear appropriate PPE

2. Perform housekeeping
3. Prepare the necessary tools, materials.
4. Mount the connection terminal socket to the frame. Make sure that it is fixed not too loose or
too tight
5. Mount the starter socket to the frame. Make sure it is attached securely.
6. Make the necessary connections of the fluorescent fixture by referring to the schematic wiring
diagram
7. Assemble and wire a 20-w fluorescent fixture using Normal or Medium Power Factor ballast
(M.P.P)
8. Test the circuit for ground short or open wiring. If fault is found, repair it.
