The yield of capture fishing is not high in inland bodies. Thus most fishes production from these resources is done through
aquaculture. Sometimes fish culture is done in combination with rice crops. Fish production can be increased by cultivating
different types of fishes in a single water body. Here both local and imported fish species are used. The fish yield from pond
is high as there is no competition for food. Many fishes breed only during monsoon. Thus one of the major problem of fish
farming is the lack of availability of good quality seed. Common fishes are Rohu, Catla, Mrigal and common carps.
