SECTION-D
Q.no 29 and 30 are case based questions. Each question has subparts with internal choice
in one sub-part.
29. Biologists have always been fascinated by how a single cell, such as an egg, can 4
give rise to an entire organism, such as the human body, composed of billions of
cells, including hundreds of different cell types. This is made possible by cell
division, whereby a single cell divides to form two cells. In biology, the cell cycle
refers to the sequence of events that a cell must go through in order to divide.
These events, which always occur in the same order, define the different stages
of the cell cycle. What is fascinating about the cell cycle is its universality, and the
main reason for this is that the genetic information of the cell is encoded by
exactly the same molecular entity with exactly the same structure: the DNA
double helix.
a) Mention the different events that take place in G2 phase of cell cycle.
b) What is G0 stage in cell cycle?
c) A cell having 12 number of chromosome. What will be the number of
chromosomes in the cell after S phase?
d) Write technical terms for nuclear division and division of cytoplasm
OR
How are daughter cells produced by mitosis and meiosis different?

30. Plant growth regulators are used to modify a crop by changing the rate or 4
pattern, or both, of its response to the internal and external factors that govern
development from germination through vegetative growth, reproductive
development, maturity, and senescence or aging, as well as postharvest
preservation.
The regulation of plant growth (other than herbicidal action, which kills the plant)
can be useful in numerous ways.
a) Name a gaseous plant hormone which promotes senescence?
b) Which hormone is used for hedge making in gardens, parks etc?
c) Name two natural auxins.
OR
