1 Indonesia is an archipelagic nation with the fourth largest population in the world. More than 90% of
Indonesian people consume rice as staple food, the dependency of rice in Indonesia is very high
about 114,6 kg/capita/year which is much more higher than other countries in Asia. This very high
dependency makes the country’s demand of rice is not fulfilled by the rice supply due to productive
land converting and wrong agriculture handling. This condition causes political and economical
instability resulting rice import policy and food insecurity in several areas, one of the most affected is
Asmat etchnic in Papua causing around 100 people die this year. Although, rice is also the staple
food of Papuan but mostly rice plant can not grow in Papua. Some of local plants in Papua with high
productivity are sagoo, corn, and sagoo larvae. Therefore, as food scientist, innovating on food
diversification based on local resources in Papua is quitely needed to tackle famine in Asmat etchnic,

3 NABU is an artificial rice with proper nutrition to tackle famine in Papua. The superiority of the
product are high protein, low glycemic index, gluten free, contain essential fat (EFA), Ca and Fe, low
cost, long shelf life, easy to make, and approved by the government on food regulation.
4 The proccess of NABU production are using some materials and utilities as follows. The production
of NABU is based on GMP and HACCP requirement. It is started by unit measurement, formulating
the materials and forming the rice by rice maker, then boiling is done at 65 oC, finally drying to
decrease the water content. Afterwards, NABU sample was analyzed in national accreditated

6 This is the result of laboratory analysis compared with commercial artificial rice and original rice,
NABU has
- higher calories content, the protein is 100% higher commercial artificial rice, Carbohydrate 10%
higher, and having low glycemic index so that it is also suitable for diabetic people
- based on physical appearance on expand potency during rice cooking, NABU is much more lower
than other commercial artificial rice and the value is close to the original rice expand potency.
- on sensory analysis, NABU artificial rice has better result on most parameters than other
commercial artificial rice.
- Based on Accelerated Shelf Life Test, NABU has long shelflife which is 925 days (more than 2,5
years)
7 NABU is packaged with an eco-friendly and food grade paperfoil material with netto of 100 gram
each product. Besides, as Indonesia as a major muslim country, halal logo is attached to inform the
customer about halal product NABU has also certified by the government on food regulation so tat it
is legal to be marketed.
8 On economical analysis, the price of NABU is cheap which is 8000 Rupiahs per 100 g. This 87%
cheaper than commercial artificial rice. Therefore, it can be reached by low-middle family. Also, as
NABU is made from local materials, it can develop the local economy and achieve local-based food
security. Besides, NABU business plan is also feasible to be operated with the RC ratio is 1,3 which
is higher than 1.
9 Then, the marketing strategy of NABU is 4P. 1st is Product, that nabu is a valuable nutrition staple
food. 2nd Price, cheaper price than other commercial artificial rice (USD 0.5). Place, Distribution
through some markets and eager to expand market area. and Promotion through online which is
social media and other online market place, and offline which is joinning product exhibition, so that
hopefully NABU can be well-marketed product.
10 In the next 5 years, NABU will be developed on optimization of NABU production and applying other
local resources for food diversification, gainning support, and collaboration with the government in
promoting NABU as great food innovation to tackle malnutrition on every emergency situation.
