III. INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURE

A. Preliminary Activities
1. SPAD

Yaya Dub needs to clean the garden. The garden is in parallelogram shaped. If the based is
12 meters and the height is 6 meters. Find its area.

2. Drill
Solve the following number sentences using multiplication and division.
1. 8 x 4 ÷ 2 = n
2. (5)(8) = n
2
3. 12 x 3 = n
2
4. 10 x 5 ÷ 2 = n
5. 3 x 4 ÷ 2 = n

3. Review
Find the area of each parallelogram.

b = 3cm
h = 4m
h = 8cm
b = 6m

B. Developmental Activities
1. Motivation

Billy wants to buy a triangular hat for his costume. He goes in a

supermarket and there he finds so many hats. Help Billy to find the hat he wants for
his costume.

Ask:
- What is the shape of the hat Billy wants for his costume?
- Measure the base and the height of the hat.
What is the height? What is the base?

2. Presentation
Vocabulary words:
AREA - a part or section within a larger place.
TRIANGLE – a shape that made up of 3 lines, 3 angles and 3 sides.

FINDING THE AREA OF A TRIANGLE

If we have two triangles and they combined
together. We formed a parallelogram, thus,
triangle is half of a parallelogram.

The area in finding a

parallelogram is A = bh
b= 6cm h = 6cm

So, the area in finding the area of a triangle is A = or A= (bh) , where b = base and h = height.

Examples:

A= bh/2 2. A = bh/2
3cm
A = 6cm x 3cm / 2 A = 8m (3m)/2

A = 1 sq cm A = 12 sq m
1.
3m

6cm 8m

3. Application
- Divide the class into 4.
Group 1: Draw a right triangle. Label the base and height as 12 cm and 4 cm. Find the
area. Group 2: Vince is surveying a plot of land in the shape of triangle. The area of the
land is 24 square meters. If the height measured 4 meters. What is the base?
Group 3: A 10 meters ladder is leaning against the building. The bottom of the ladder is 5
meters away from building. What is the area of the space of the ladder?
Group 4: what is the height of a triangle with a base of 5 inches and an area of 20 square
inches?

4. Generalization
The formula in finding an area of a triangle is A = bh/2 or A = ½ bh where b = base and h =
height.
The formula in finding the missing height and base of a triangle is:
b = A(2)/h and h = A(2)/b

IV. EVALUATION
Solve the following.
2. 3.
1. h = 4m A = 3 sq m h = 5cm b =
Ss
6m b = 2m A = 10 sq cm

h =? b =?
A =?

V. HOME ACTIVITY
Complete the table below.
Triangle Base (b) Height (h) Area
1 4m 2m
2 6 cm 4 cm
3 12 in 84 sq in
4 12 m 36 sq m
5 9 dm 10 dm
