Rodney Howard-Browne was raised in
a Pentecostal family as a young boy in
South Africa.
 
In 1979, the fire of God fell on him.
 
On January 1, 1980, he went into the
ministry.
 
In 1981, he met and married his wife
Adonica.
 
In December of 1987, Rodney, along
with his wife, Adonica, and their three
children, Kirsten, Kelly, and Kenneth,
moved from their native land, South
Africa, to the United States with only
$300 – called by God as missionaries
from Africa to America. The Lord had
spoken through Dr. Rodney in a word
of prophecy and declared: “As America
has sown missionaries over the last 200

Revival

Revival and its cause has been studied and discussed
for years by many different people, but revival simply
begins in your heart. Revival does not begin in your
spouse’s heart; it begins in you. And until revival begins
in you, it’s never going to begin in someone else.
You cannot experience revival if you are spiritually dead.
Some Christians are as cold as a corpse. When they
walk into the room, the spiritual temperature drops ten
degrees, because they’re part of “the frozen chosen.”
If you’re on fire for God and you’re full of the Holy Spirit,
you can take the power of God wherever you go. But too
many Christians are allowing the influence of the world
to stop them or pull them down.
We are the salt of the earth. We must rise up in victory,
power, and faith in these last days. Then we will affect
the spiritual temperature wherever we go.
Again, revival begins in your heart. Ezekiel 36:26, 27a
reads, “A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit
will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart
out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.
And I will put my spirit within you.”
Some people need a new spirit; that is, the Spirit of
God needs to revive them. They sit like a bump on a
log in the Sunday morning service, jumping up between
yawns to shout “Amen!”
Revival brings a change of heart. When you have been
revived, you will go and change other people’s hearts -
not their heads. God doesn’t want fat heads; He wants
fat hearts. There are enough fat heads going around!
Just to change your mind is not enough; you’ve got to
have a change of heart. That’s what happens when you
get born again: You have a change of heart.
Some of you are not experiencing revival right now
because you need a change of heart. If you will let the
Spirit of God move in your life, He will give you a change
of heart, and you will be in revival. Then people will look
at you and say, “Everyone’s talking about revival, but
that person is walking in it.”

CELEBRATING 40 YEARS OF MINISTRY
On December 1, 1996, for the first morning service,
575 people joined them.
 
Soon after The River Church was planted, the River Bible
Institute, which is now River University, was launched
in 1997, with the theme: Training Up Revivalists for the
Twenty-first Century.
 
Because of a dream that the Lord gave him, Dr. Rodney
rented Madison Square Garden, the world’s most
famous arena, in 1999 for six weeks in New York City. It
was in New York that the Lord gave this ministry a tool
for individual believers to use to win souls called the
Gospel Soul Winning Script. With daily soul winning on
the streets and nightly meetings at the venue, 48,459
people made decisions for Jesus Christ.
 
In 2000, Drs. Rodney and Adonica went to Shreveport,
Louisiana, and conducted a six-week soul-winning
campaign: Good News Shreveport-Bossier at the Hirsch
Memorial Coliseum. Again, with daily soul winning on
the streets and nightly meetings at the venue, 59,247
individuals committed their lives to Jesus Christ!
 
For fourteen years, Drs. Rodney and Adonica
conducted two meetings a day, six days a week, and
logged in over 7,000 meetings, spreading the Gospel
and reviving the Church.
 
In the summer of 2001, the new property for RMI’s
World Headquarters, The River at Tampa Bay Church,
and River University was acquired – eighty-three acres
with 1,300 floodlit parking bays.
Early on Christmas morning 2002, Drs. Rodney and
Adonica’s second daughter, Kelly, at the early age of
eighteen, ran out of lung capacity and breathed out her
last breath. She had fought a battle with an incurable
lung disease called Cystic Fibrosis. They placed her
into the arms of her Lord and Savior and then vowed a
vow. First, they vowed that the devil would pay for what
he had done to their family. Secondly, they vowed to do
everything in their power, with the help of the Lord, to
win one million souls to Jesus and to put $1 billion into

In 2003, the Lord directed Dr. Rodney to stay at his
home base in Tampa and to command the harvest to
come in. As a result, millions of people were reached
through global satellite television.
 
Also in 2003, in the month of April, Good News Tampa
Bay was launched with the goal of reaching 100,000
decisions for Christ. Hundreds of believers were
mobilized and thrust into the harvest field, winning
the lost at any cost. As a result, 108,664 decisions for
Jesus Christ in the Greater Tampa Bay were made.

THOUGHTS ON STEWARDSHIP
Ecclesiastes 11:1, 6 (AMPC) – Cast your bread upon the waters, for
you will find it after many days. In the morning sow your seed, and in the
evening withhold not your hands, for you know not which shall prosper,
whether this or that, or whether both alike will be good.
This passage of Scripture talks about sowing and planting seed. It is
interesting to note that today, in certain circles, money is called bread.
Have you heard that expression: “Hey, Joe, did you bring the bread?” I
want you to realize that the very thing that will stop you and hinder you
from sowing is what will stop you and hinder you from reaping.
If you are waiting for every condition to be favorable, you will never sow,
and you will never reap. Some people have come to us and said, “Brother
Rodney, one day, when everything is just wonderful, we are going to get
behind your ministry and support it.” We have been waiting for years.
Every time I see them, I ask, “How are you doing?” Their response is, “Ah,
brother, we’re just waiting. We have a big oil deal coming through.”
Instead of just doing things systematically and working the small stuff,
these people are always waiting for some big deal. It’s usually an
astronomical figure like $40 million that is just going to come through.
Every time you talk to them, they say, “It’ll be another month, but it’ll come
through. Things are hung up somewhere in Switzerland. It’s going through
government channels, and it’s hung up.”
Well, I have found out that it isn’t the millionaires who finance the Gospel.
It’s the little widow woman with the two mites, the little bit of oil, and the
little bit of meal. Those are the people who support the Gospel.
Seedtime and Harvest
The Bible talks about seed time and harvest. When you sow, you’re
planting a seed. If you have children, you know that the many hours you
spend every day with them are a seed you are planting into their lives. And
you expect to see a return in the years to come.
A good farmer who plows up a field and plants seed is going to wait for the
harvest. You don’t go to a farmer and tell him, “Look, I know you’re planting
a field here but don’t really expect a harvest.” He’s going to look at you
and say, “What do you mean? That’s why I am here. I’m planting so that I
can reap a harvest.” Don’t let some religious dingbat tell you that you are
meant to give but that you really shouldn’t expect to receive anything in
return.
Some people only reap every month because they only sow every month.
Others reap once a year because they only sow once a year. When I read
Ecclesiastes 11:6a, “In the morning sow your seed, and in the evening
withhold not your hands,” I realize that He isn’t talking about once-a-week
giving or once-a-month giving. I realize that God is talking about being a
giver, sowing morning and night, and in fact, every waking moment. We
must continuously ask ourselves, “How can I be a blessing? How can I do
something to help others?”

Become a Giver In Every Area of Your Life
The Bible says, “The generous soul will be made rich, and he who waters
will also be watered himself” (Proverbs 11:25). Show me somebody who is
a giver, and I’ll show you somebody who is a reaper. Show me somebody
who’s a stingy tight-wad, and I will show you somebody who’s always in
lack.
Even so, some people are not in lack because they’re stingy. They lack
because they simply spend too much money. If your outgo exceeds your
income, then your upkeep is going to be your downfall. People come to
me and say, “Brother Rodney, the devil is attacking my finances.” If you are
that kind of spender, the devil doesn’t need to attack you. You are doing
it yourself. It’s you who wrote that check or your wife who has the credit
cards. Don’t blame the devil.
If this is your problem, ask God to give you wisdom. Then you won’t spend
money you don’t have to buy things to please people you don’t even like.
You won’t end up with things you never use. Have you ever turned on the
television and been told what you need? Have you ever bought from the
home shopping club? It’s amazing how people seem to find money to get
the things they want. If they desperately want it, they find the money to
get it. I always make religious devils mad when I talk along this subject of
giving. It doesn’t take long. As the truth is presented, they hit the door.
Purpose in your heart to become a giver in every area of your life. As you
plant in the morning and in the evening, God’s blessings will overtake you.

financially. Knowing that God wants to meet your needs is not enough.
You have to stand on His Word, appropriate His promises, act on them

My fiancée Stephanie and I grabbed ahold of
the teachings on sowing and reaping taught
every Sunday at The River. We knew that when
we wanted to get married that the Lord would
pay for our wedding. So we stepped out in faith,
sowed, and claimed the scripture Romans 8:28,
“And we know that all things work together for
good to them that love God, to them who are the
called according to his purpose.”
Three weeks before our wedding, we were
still standing in faith that the money was going
to come in. The devil would try to get us in
fear, but we resisted him. We spent time in

Good News Umlazi was a nation shaking event, and we saw thousands of lives changed over this
ten-day period. Eric and Jennifer Gonyon did a superb job on Good News Umlazi for us as they
did on Good News Soweto. We had the cooperation of 275 churches and pastors. We had sixteen
giant billboards, put up 7,000 posters, handed out 700,000 flyers, and paid for 1,000 buses over the
course of ten days of the demonstration of the power of God in the King Zwelithini Soccer Stadium.
Every night, we preached a soul-winning message, gave an altar call for salvation, ministered on the
baptism of the Holy Spirit, and prayed with the people to be filled, to speak in other tongues, and to
be filled with the joy of the Lord. Then we prayed for all those who needed healing as they placed
their hands on the sick part of their body.

We had an accumulated attendance of over 539,000 people over the ten-day crusade, and we also
broadcasted live over three radio stations – one secular rock station, and two Christian stations.
Over 1 million people listen to these stations, which broadcast in a 120-mile radius. We had over
286,750 souls saved in the stadium and many more over the radio. Many people were wonderfully
healed, both in the stadium and at home, listening to the radio. We heard many stories of people
gathering around the radio with all their friends and family every night to listen to the singing and
preaching. Every day, people came in to tell us how they were saved, healed, filled with the Holy
Spirit, and touched by the power of God, listening to the radio in their homes! The rock station was
very excited at the viewer response to GNU and all the phone calls they received.

We had blind eyes opened; ears were opened; bones and joints were healed; people could walk,
bend, and dance without assistance; pain left, demons left; epileptics were cured and went from ten
seizures a day to nothing for the whole week! We had many people healed of asthma and sugar
diabetes, who were able to come totally off of their medication. Some of them even brought their
doctors along to testify! It was a very successful ten days!

5 Nights: October 2005

Mamelodi is a township of about one million people just outside of the city of Pretoria,
an hour north of Johannesburg, South Africa. This was our third mass crusade in our
home country of South Africa.

In preparation for the crusade, we set up our offices right on the crusade grounds.
When our team first got there, the office buildings were quite a mess. Just as in Umlazi,
we paid for lights to be installed on the bleachers and left them there, so we sowed
into Mamelodi by repairing and refurbishing these buildings. We repaired the broken
windows, installed security bars, and fixed and painted the offices, so the community
will be able to use them after we leave.

We did a huge advertising campaign to cover the entire area; we were able to distribute
1.3 million handbills, put up 7,000 posters, and posted eleven major billboards. We also
ran a huge newspaper campaign in four major South African newspapers. The city was
buzzing with excitement when we arrived. We were met at the airport in Johannesburg
by a group of people from the choir with a big welcome banner. They were so excited
about GNM and very appreciative that we were coming to their city. We were so moved.
They sang and danced for us right in the arrivals hall with all the other passengers and
their friends and families looking on. It was a wonderful welcome. When we went to the
field, we received an equally warm welcome, except this time from the whole choir, and
also our precious volunteers. The 500-voice choir all bought their own T-shirts and also
paid for their own transportation to all the rehearsals and the five nights of the crusade.
This is quite a sacrifice for people who do not have their own vehicles and who do not
have much money to spare!

In all of these townships, they tell us that you can never get more than thirty pastors at
a time to show up for anything, and we had nearly 300 pastors show up for our pastor’s
meeting. We had over 400 churches participate in the crusade with us, and we also
had over 500 people, from many different churches, participate in the Mamelodi Mass
Choir.

We had four radio stations broadcast the crusade live every night. These stations
reach over one million people in the area. Two were Christian stations, and two were
secular stations. The radio stations received stacks of SMS messages (text messages)
of people with testimonies and prayer requests who responded from the live radio
broadcast.

We saw thousands of people touched by the power of the Holy Spirit. We truly believe
that this city and region will never be the same again. We had over 219,500 people in
attendance, and we had over 113,000 recorded decisions for Christ in only five nights.
We ran approximately 507 buses during the whole week.

From June 7-11, 2006, we went back to South Africa for a mass crusade in the Mdantsane
Township outside the city of East London in the Eastern Cape. Mdantsane is one of the largest
townships in South Africa. Dr. Rodney Howard-Browne was born and raised in the Eastern Cape
in the land of the Xhosa. The Xhosa tribe is one of the largest tribes in South Africa. As a
teenager, still in high school, he had some of his first ministry experiences, preaching in the mud
huts of the Transkei!

This was the biggest crusade ever held in that area. We had a combined attendance of 94,000.
On the biggest night, we had a crowd of 27,000 people, and over the five days, 70,489 people
gave their lives to Jesus. This was all in spite of major transportation problems; the taxis don’t
allow the buses into Mdantsane, and sometimes gunfire is even exchanged. The favor of God
was all over this crusade. Pastors told us that through the cooperation of the different ministries
and churches with GNMD, God healed some breaches and misunderstanding and brought a
Spirit of unity and mutual respect to relationships between ministers. You know—everywhere we
go—we want to leave the place better than when we came. We want to leave a deposit of God’s
grace and blessing!

5 Nights: January 2006

On January 10-14, 2006, we ministered in Visakhapatnam, India for five days in a mass soul-
winning crusade called Good News Vizag that was organized by American evangelist Mark
Swiger, who has conducted more than fifty crusades all over India. It was quite an ordeal
just to get there, taking more than fifty hours in all, and included an unscheduled twelve-
hour wild ride from about 4:30 p.m. on Saturday to nearly 5 a.m. Sunday from Hyderabad to
Visakhapatnam with a driver who did not speak English. This was a 670 kilometer (420 mile)
drive that should have taken no more than nine hours, and most of it was spent trying to keep
our driver awake!

We dodged buses, taxis, trucks, motorbikes, cows, goats, and people with plenty of near
misses. Fortunately, we know that our lives are in God’s hands, and the angels are watching Good News crusades grand totals:
over us at all times until the Lord is done with us here on earth. So we can afford to walk in 5 Mass Crusades
peace and joy in almost any circumstance! The crusade workers stayed up all night to greet 35 Nights
us, and when we arrived, they welcomed us with showers of flower petals and fireworks in the Soweto 206,445

the Holy Spirit, speaking in other tongues, shaking, crying, and laughing. Many children were
powerfully touched by God as well. There were even pastors who fell out under the power
of God for the first time ever in their lives. Even though the meeting was scheduled at a bad
time, in the middle of a major Hindu festival, we still had a great response with 55,000 people
giving their lives to the Lord. Many people were baptized in the Holy Spirit, and many were
wonderfully healed and delivered – some of excruciating pain that they had suffered with for
many years. Many people reported seeing a light or a ball of fire coming toward them and
hitting them at the moment that they received their healing!
