INTRODUCTION:

The Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam, is a public business school located in

Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India. It is one of the twenty Indian Institutes of Management. The
institution started the first batch of its Post Graduate Program (PGP) in Management from August
2015.Visakhapatnam (also known as Vizag) is the largest city and the financial capital of the Indian
state of Andhra Pradesh. The city is the administrative headquarters of Visakhapatnam district and
the Eastern Naval Command of Indian Navy. Its geographical location is amidst Eastern Ghats
mountain range and the coast of Bay of Bengal. The institute is headed by Director, Prof
Chandrasekhar Mylavarapu, an IIT Bombay, Delhi Alumnus and ex-Director of ASCI, Hyderabad.

PROPOSAL

1. Government of Andhra Pradesh allotted 241.50 acre (including 80 feet road) land located at
Gambheeram Village of Anandapuram Mandal to IIM Visakhapatnam.

2. Construction of boundary wall for the site was completed.

3. Site handed over by Andhra Pradesh State government to IIM Visakhapatnam on March 8, 2018.
4. DPR approved by GoI on September 17, 2018 with a total estimated cost of Rs.807.76 crore and
Rs 445 crore for Phase-I.
5. The institute has appointed M/s. Arcop Associates Pvt. Ltd as an Architect and NBCC (India) Ltd
as a Project Management Consultant (PMC) for the proposed Permanent Campus.

AIM:

The project is aimed at creating an architectural form for the permanent campus of the newly
established IIM in Visakhapatnam while translating the adherent features of the surrounding
built fabric to a contemporary definition. It will be developed on the basis of thorough study of the
context in addition to the spatial interaction of the activities for the following components:

● Main Academic Complex

- Library
- School Building
- Faculty Blocks
- Plaza

● Administration Block
● Kitchen and Dining
● Faculty and Staff Housing
● Management Development Centre
● Student Dormitories for PGP students

CONTEXT:

 The largest city and the financial capital.

 The administrative headquarters.
 State headquarters of Indian Coast Guard.
 Surrounded by colleges & temples.

SCOPE & LIMITATION:

● The project will incline towards achieving a rational and futuristic definition for buildings.
● It will also venture into analysis of spatial interaction based on inter-activity relations.

SCALE OF PROJECT:

Large Scale Project with more than 10 built forms and other allied spaces around.

STAGES OF DESIGN DEVELOPMENT:

1. Study of Site, Context and Architectural expression.

2. Formulation of Activities and Sub-Activities
3. Understanding the hierarchy and interdependence of activities with respect to users.
4. Site development, local connectivity and place making for public.
5. Development of built spaces and forms on the lines of 3rd stage.
6. Architectural details, services and relevance.

SITE: The project would be set up in around 241 acres of land in Visakhapatnam. It is well connected
to all means of transport.

✔ Internationally: to Singapore, Kuala-lumpur & Dubai via airport.
