Minimum Standards and Requirements For Establishment of A Ayurvedic Medical College & Hospital PDF
There should be sufficient space in the hospital for running OPD & IPD wards in addition to Panchkarma,
Ksharsutra Section, Operation Theatre, Labour Room, Store Rooms, Rooms for officer and staff of the hospital
and all other requirements. The minimum space required for a 100 beded hospital should be minimum 20,000
Sq. ft. (covered). Essential OPD Staff
1. Physicians All teachers of clinical and other subjects.
2. Causality Medical Officer 3 (where Atyayik department exists)
3. Vaidyas (OPD) Incharge 2
4. Kalpak/Pharmacist 4 (upto 100 patients daily) one for every additional fifty patients.
5. Nurse 2
6. Dresser 2
7. OPD Attendant 3 in addition to Departmental attendants
8. Clerk (Registration & Record) 2
9. Sweeper 2 or on contract basis
Panchkarma Section
Library
To start with an Ayurvedic college, the minimum number of books should be 2000 and it should be increased
upto 5000 in four years time. The minimum sitting capacity in the reading room should be for 50 persons.
There shall be separate hostel arrangement for boys and girls students.
Games Facilities
There should be sufficient space where facilities for indoor and outdoor games may be provided.
Rasayanasala
There will be an Ayurvedic Rasayanasala attached to Department of Rasashastra & Bhaishajya Kalpana with
Minimum Area 150 Sq. ft. consisting of equipments, Kharala, etc. for preparation of medicine as per syllabus.
Central Laboratory
Central Laboratory with separate sections for physiology and pathology labs and sufficient space for
demonstration of students in these sections with following staff:
1. Pathology/Microbiologist 1 (contract basis)
2. Lab. Technician 1
3. Lab. Assistant 3
4. Clerk/Typist 1
5. Peon 1
6. Sweeper 1
Area
1. Well-equipped and spacious area be provided for Biochemistry, Biophysics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry,
Pharmacology, Pharmacognogy and Microbiology.

Note:- In those department where against Professor and Reader either one is shown, in these department may
have either one Professor or one Reader.
Library
There should be sufficient space for stock room, Reading room, Librarian's room and Store. The total area for a
Library attached to Ayurvedic college should not be less than 2000 Sq.ft.
Lecturer Halls Four Lecturer halls almost 750 Sq.ft. each and one common hall for meeting etc. of about 2000
Sq.ft. must be available with each institution. Thus, the total area in the hall and meeting room and Conference
Room should not be less than 5000 Sq.ft.
Space Requirements for Various Departments of Ayurved Colleges Every department of an Ayurvedic
college should have separate space for each department. The space provided in each department should be
sitting room for Professor, Reader and Lecturer with small Library and Departmental office. Some of the
departments may require additional space for Laboratory, Museum etc. the minimum requirement of the space
for each department may be as follows:-
Department of Maulik Siddhant Samhita including Sanskrit 500 Sq.ft.
Department of Rachana Sharir 1500 Sq.ft.
The additional space provided for this Department is for Dissection Hall, Cadaver Room, 1000 Sq.ft.
Museum etc.
Department of Kriya Sharir
The additional space provided for this department includes physiology, Lab, Meseum etc. 1000 Sq.ft.
Department of Dravyaguna
The additional space provided for this Department is for Pharnaceutical Lab and museum. 500 Sq.ft.
Department of Rasashastra & Bhaishajya Kalpana
Department of Rog Vigyan 500 Sq.ft.
Department of Swasthavaritta with Yogakaksha 1000 Sq.ft.
Agad Tantra & Vidhi Ayurved 1000 Sq.ft.
The additional space provided for this Department is for Agadtantra Museum 500 Sq.ft.
Department of Prasuti & Striroga 500 Sq.ft.
Kaumatbhritya 500 Sq.ft. Department of Kayachikitsa 500 Sq.ft.
Department of Shalyatantra + Kshar sutra Lab 1000 Sq.ft.
