1. A force of 50 N acts on the block at the angle shown in the diagram. The
block moves a horizontal distance of 3.0 m. How much work is done by the
applied force?

2. How much work is done by an applied force to lift a 15-Newton block 3.0
meters vertically at a constant speed?

3. Calculate the work done by a 2.0-N force (directed at a 30° angle to the
vertical) to move a 500 gram box a horizontal distance of 400 cm across a
rough floor at a constant speed of 0.5 m/s. (HINT: Be cautious with the
units.)
4. A person is sitting on a building of height 10m and the mass of the
person is 50kg, determine the mechanical energy.

5. Determine the mechanical energy of a 20 kg object which is moving with

a speed of 10m/s.

6. A 30 kg boulder is on top of an 80 m cliff. If the rock falls, how much is its

potential energy when it reaches 30 m above the ground?

7. A 65.0 kg child climbs a 15.00 m long slide that is inclined 45° with the
horizontal. What is the potential energy of the child with respect to the
ground?

8. A spring balance requires a force of 90 N to compress it by 0.35 m. Find

the force constant of the spring. How much force needed to compress the
spring by 0. 65 m? What is its elastic potential energy when compressed by
0.7 m?
9. An apple of mass 0.10 kg is suspended from a vertical spring with spring
constant 9.6 N/m. How much elastic potential energy is stored in the spring
if the apple stretches the spring 20.4 cm? How much gravitational potential
energy did the apple lose?

10. What is the Kinetic Energy of a 1200 kg object that is moving with a
speed of 24 m/s?

11. An object has a kinetic energy of 14 J and a mass of 17 kg ,how fast is

the object moving?

12. An object moving with a speed of 67 m/s and has a kinetic energy of
500 J, what is the mass of the object.
13. A 50-kg person runs up the stairs 10 meters high in 2
minutes. Acceleration due to gravity (g) is 10 m/s2. Determine the power.

14. A 10 Kg Cart is pushed by a 30 N force against friction for a distance of

8m in 3 seconds. Determine the Power needed to move the cart.
