Our first destinations was San Bartolome Church in Conception, Malabon. San
Bartolome which is Augustinian Church built in 1599 and was once part of Tondo, Manila. It was
founded in 1614 when San Bartolome Church became independent from Tondo and is now part
of Malabon City. It is historical and considered a heritage cite because it was once a meeting
place of the katipuneros before they went to balintawak and tear up their cedulas.
After visiting San Bartolome Church, we went to Syjuco Mansion House. It was
considered as heritage cite in Malabon City because it was an ancestral house and was built 150
years ago. The original owner of the house who is the late Benito Syjuco, bought his house for
₱13, 000 pesos. Good thing here is Benito Syjuco gave his house to his only daughter, Tita Baby,
a very kind and accomodating and still alive until now. The house was beautiful and its furniture
was well preserved.
We also went to Nepomuceno Ancestral House which is now owned by a private family,
and now call Ading's Veranda Restaurant in Conception, Malabon.
Next destination was El Casa Catipunero which is located in Brgy. Baritan, Malabon City,
and now part of 5th generation of Apolinario Mabini's friend. According to the present owner
and care-taker of the house, it is once a meeting place of katipuneros and in fact, Dr. Jose Rizal
has been there for some heroic reasons.
Just like the other places in the Philippines, Malabon City has its own Library and
Museum. After we went to El Casa Katipunero, we visited the famous Library and Museum of
Malabon City which is located at Hulo, Malabon. It is a two-storey establishment, first floor is
for a beautiful library and the 2nd one is a museum which displays the miniature of all heritage
in Malabon.
The tour was very educational and enjoyable for us, students especially to mine because
I am not a Malabon Resident. I didn't even know that there are places like what I mentioned
earlier. Malabon is indeed a beautiful city, it deserves the tagline of "City of Taste and Heritage".
