Introduction
Education refers to the systematic process of teachings, training,
and guiding students to acquire knowledge, skill and understanding
through practical experience or deep study on a subject, especially at
schools, colleges, and other educational institutions. It is an important
medium of acquiring skills and knowledge that brings positive changes in
human life. By means of education, every individual can sharpen their
skills and knowledge that enables him to lead a successful life. Education
is everyone’s concern as it was the priority of all societies. A major task of
education program is to come up with guidelines and tools to enable
students to learn effectively and efficiently. This will ensure the students to
acquire necessary skills for them to use academically and logically.
Education plays a vital role in spreading the globalization since it is
thought in schools. Teachers and professors impart information that can
be used by the students and for them to gain more facts and information
with regards to the globalization. Having enough knowledge about
globalization can become a great help to the economy since it tackles
about the different factors and elements that affect the deepening of the
globalization. It also tackles the counterpoint and drawbacks of
globalization with regards to the environment.
Globalization is a process of expansion. It is not only about the
goods and services that are transferred across the borders but also the
movement of people like exchanging of practices, beliefs, and culture.
Effects of globalization can be felt throughout the world. There are millions
of positive effects of globalization but there are also undesirable results of
it. One of this is the environmental crises that the world is facing today.
Maybe some of us might think that this is not a major problem, but it is.
Many have pointed out that globalization has led to an increase in the
consumption of products, which has impacted the ecological cycle.
Increased consumption leads to an increase in the production of goods,
which in turn puts stress on the environment. At some point, it is true.
Along with the continuous growth of the economy, is the exhaustion and
depletion of our own natural resources. These environmental challenges
are not as simple as you think.
We, people are appointed as stewards of God’s creation. It is our
responsibility to take care of the nature. The purpose of this study is to
make people aware on what is happening around them. We must think of
solutions with regards to this problem and we must start this change with
ourselves. There are number of ways to protect our environment and I am
hoping that this study will serve as the tool for us, humans to take steps to
reduce the damages that we are causing our own environment.

II. Current State of Globalization

Foreign
Many have stated that globalization has impacted the environment
in a negative way. The rise of consumption has created bigger problems
and it has led to several environmental concerns. Due to globalization and
industrialization, millions of trees are cut down, hills are flattened and
mountains are cut off to build tunnels, buildings, roads and other
infrastructures.
According to Srivastav (2016). Globalization causes rise in pollution
level. The gases that are emitted from the aircraft have led to the depletion
of the ozone layer apart from increasing the greenhouse effect. The
industrial waste that is generated as a result of production has been laden
on ships and dumped in oceans. This has killed many underwater
organisms and has deposited many harmful chemicals in the ocean. All of
us knew that factories are ejecting their wastes on oceans and other
bodies of water that can kill a large number of species living in the seas,
and oceans. Yes they are producing goods to be consumed by the
consumers but along with this is the destruction and annihilation of the
underwater species. Also, the smoke emitted by the different
transportation contributes on the air pollution. Along with the rise of
production of cars is the continuous increase of air pollution that plays a
big part to the depletion of the ozone layer that serves as a shield from
Sun’s ultraviolet radiation.
According to Roberts (2018). Liberalization of trade, or the
reduction of restrictions, tariffs and other barriers to free trade, has an
effect on countries' industry composition, which can have a positive or
negative environmental impact. Since it is now allowed to trade goods
within and outside the country due to the free trade, the demand increases
and that simply means more pollution will be produced and that the natural
resources will be strained. She also stated that the more households
gaining access to more affordable consumer goods, more manufacturing
and more intense use of natural resources put strain on the environment
in the form of pollution and depletion of resources. It results to more
pollution, waste and depletion of natural resources. Competitions globally
have brought overexploitation of natural resources. Because of their
desire to expand their goods not only within their country but into a larger
market they are using finite resources quickly and in an appropriate
manner.
According to Koebler (2014). China’s mountain flattening
experiment is not going well. To create more room for its 1.3 billion
people, China has been, quite literally, moving mountains. Problem is, the
world's largest mountain-flattening project has thus far been a disaster for
the environment and highly questionable economically. They thought that
this action will bring more conveniency to the people but it has resulted to
a much bigger problem. Maybe because they do not have any clue on
what they are doing and what will be the effects of this undesirable action
to the people. Flattening mountains should not be done just because they
wanted to build infrastructures, provide homes for their people, and to
create more lands for buildings. They should have thought another ways
to this kind of situation, there are millions of methods that can be apply
into this and flattening the mountains is not the best way to solve this
problem. It just resulted into another disaster. It caused landslides and
flooding and also it softened the soil that leads to structural collapse. It is
not only destroying the nature but there also wasted million dollars
because this project doesn’t go well. They have learned that this project is
absolutely terrible for the environment. So in the end they have learned
that moving and flattening mountains is not a wise and easy task.
A wind turbine is a device that converts the wind's kinetic energy
into electrical energy. Wind turbines are manufactured in a wide range of
vertical and horizontal axis. In an article that I have read written in Manila
Bulletin, wind turbines are designed as an alternative fossil fuels but this
turbines still contribute to climate change due to the way they redistribute
heat and moisture in the atmosphere. Researchers from Harvard
University found that powering the entire United States with wind energy
would cause a 0.54 degree Celsius ground temperature rise in the area
where the turbines were located, and a 0.24C increase across the
continental United States.

Local
Effects of globalization are not only evident internationally but also
within our own country. Our country has a lot of developing cities that can
be considered as a global city since they have different variety of goods
that can be offered to the consumer. It does not only talks about the goods
they offered but it is about on how they conform to the trends nowadays.
According to Cabico (2018). The Philippines diversity is one of the
richest in the world. But it is also among the most threatened. Our country
is losing about 47,000 hectares of forest cover every year. This is based
on the data provided by the Forest Management Bureau of the
Department of Environment and Natural Resources. Illegal logging is
responsible on what is happening today in our forests.
Let us take Boracay Island as an example of this. Boracay is one of
the nation’s major tourist destinations. President Rodrigo Duterte ordered
the closure of this for 6-months that have started last April 26, 2018. This
was done because the island does not look like a tourist destination
anymore of the nasty results of people’s negligent attitude. People are
also complaining about the pollution and flooding in the island.
Another issue under this is the quarrying. Quarrying is the process
of removing rock, sand, gravel or other minerals from the ground in order
to use them to produce materials for construction or other uses. It is
mostly used in cement companies. This includes blasting and the
materials produced by quarrying are essential to our lives since it used in
construction materials to build different infrastructures like building, roads
and such. But even though it produces materials that can be used by the
people, it still has negative results on the environment. Quarrying results
to soil erosion, pollution, siltation and the flooding of downstream bodies
and areas.
As stated in CNN Philippines, the Environment Secretary Cimatu
suspended all the quarrying in the Philippines due to the landslide that has
happened in Naga City, Cebu. But it is just a temporary suspension. The
secretary does not want this disaster to happen again. Around 60 houses
were buried, properties is not the only one affected with this because
many have died in this tragedy.
As written by Tacio (2018). He described what plastics are, how
much we use it, their underlying harmful effects and environmental
impacts and the positive actions that the industry must take to reverse
plastic-related problems and pollution. Plastic is now one of the country’s
top pollutants of canals, rivers and waterways. Our country, Philippines is
one of the five countries where majority of plastics originates.
Porcalla (2018). Published in The Philippine Star stated that an
administration lawmaker revealed that the Philippines has become the
world’s third largest source of plastic leaking in the oceans and seas and it
has among the highest trash collection rates in Southeast Asia. Plastic
pollution has been choking waterways across the country and worsens the
disaster when during rainy seasons come. Higher percent of branded
residual waste comes from food packaging followed by household and
personal care products.
