As students move to the next level of their education, choosing a college course is one of the
major decisions you have to make. Aside from curriculum, tuition, personal preference, and
accessibility, careers with a high salary potential is also one of the primary factors that college
students consider in choosing a college.

What will be my job after I graduate? How can my future career support my needs? These are
just some of the questions on top of every student’s mind. While there are many available
scholarships in the country, it cannot be denied that the expenses will pile up and eventually put
a dent on your parents’ savings. If you’re curious about which course has the potential to provide
you with a high return on investment, here are the top 10 college courses by earning potential.

1. Aircraft Operations, Aviation, Aeronautical Engineering –

Careers in the aviation industry are considered the highest paying jobs in the Philippines based
on the 2016 Occupational Wages Survey report released by the Department of Labor and
Employment (DOLE). To become a licensed pilot, a student must have a bachelor’s degree in
aviation, aeronautical engineering, aircraft operations, or other related fields. You will also need
to pass licensure examinations and certifications from the Civil Aviation Authority of the
Philippines (CAAP) and pass the Aviation Training Organization (ATO) requirements to hold a
certificate.

2. Commerce, Economics – ₱89,831


Securities and finance dealers and brokers are the ones who handle financial market transactions
on behalf of their clients and offer financial advice. If you are interested to take this career
path, you have to complete a degree in accounting, finance, or commerce. Board examinations
and certification are also required in this job. Graduates from this courses can work in banks,
accounting and law firms, stockbroking firms, or other investment companies.

3. Civil Engineering – ₱68,957

course includes the use of various subjects such as computer science, mathematics, probability,
statistics, finance, and economics. Graduates from this course can land a job in insurance
industries, pension funds, consultancies, or risk management companies.

Computer Programmers are some of the most in demand professions in the country nowadays. A
computer programmer analyzes the process of designing, writing, testing, debugging and
maintaining a programming language that computers can understand. With the advancement of
technology, Computer Programming provides promising long-term career opportunities for the
graduates.
6. Computer Science – ₱51,069
Computer Science is a field of study that focuses on data and algorithms. It gives students a
deeper understanding of how data is processed, stored, and communicated. Computer Science
graduates can have the opportunity to work as a business analyst, systems support, or software
designer.

7. Computer Engineering – ₱49,335


Computer engineering focuses on designing softwares and hardwares. It studies how computing
machines are built and how to make them more efficient and effective. CE graduates can work as
a software engineer, software developer, hardware engineer, system engineer, or radio frequency
engineer.

8. Accountancy – ₱47,756
Accountancy is one of the most popular courses in the Philippines. Accountants and
auditors prepare and examine financial records of businesses. The core areas of accountancy
include accounting, business laws, audit, and taxation. You must pass the licensure examination
for Accountants first before you become a Certified Public Accountant. Accountancy
graduates, especially CPAs, have a lot of job opportunities especially in banking and finance.

9. Industrial Engineering – 47,101


In the Occupational Wages Survey released by DOLE in 2017, jobs as Production Supervisors
and General Foremen belong to the highly paid jobs in the country. Production supervisors
manage the efficiency of their workmen as they manufacture products in a factory/industrial
environment. A bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or related disciplines is required for
this position. Having a set of relevant short trainings and certification from TESDA would also
be helpful to succeed in this career.

10. Data Analysis and Statistics – 41,480


Statisticians can work for companies that are involved in market research, quality control, and
development, as well as research facilities. Aside from a Bachelor of Science in Statistics,
students can also pursue courses such as Applied Mathematics or Data Science.

The Top 10 high paying jobs in the Philippines according to Department of Labor
and Employment (DOLE) were featured on February 8 episode of Bandila.
According to Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz the list of high
paying jobs can serve as guide for graduating high school students.
Instead of choosing the current trending when comes to degree, she told that it would be
better to choose a career that will lead to employment related to current in demand jobs
in the Philippines.

The Top 10 high paying jobs in the Philippines are based on the latest studies conducted
by Bureau of Local Employment (BLE). The list includes those from Banking and
Finance, aviation, business process outsourcing (Call center), cyber services,
manufacturing, mining, and creative industries.
Some of these jobs need bachelors degree while others only need to have high school
diploma backed with years of experience.
