Course Description:
Genetics is a branch of biology concerned with the study of heredity and variation. The course deals with the principles of plant and animal genetics including Mendelian and modern
concepts of heredity. Solving transmission genetics problems, make accurate predictions about inheritance of genetic traits, and map the locations of genes. Developments in molecular genetics
Revision 1

will be addressed through the chemistry and physiology of the gene and the nature of gene action in prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. Two 90-minute lectures per week and 3 hours of laboratory
per week. Offered in 1st Semester CTU-Danao Campus.

General Objectives:

At the end of this course, the BSED Science II Students will be able to:

1. Identify and describe the process and purposes of the cell cycle, mitosis and meiosis, as well as predict the outcomes of these processes.
2. Solve transmission genetics problems, make accurate predictions about inheritance of genetic traits, and map the locations of genes.
3. Diagram and describe the processes of replication, transcription, translation, as well as predict the outcomes of these processes.
4. To describe what causes and consequences of DNA sequence changes and how cells prevent these changes, as well as make predictions about the causes and effects of changes
in DNA.
