I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate understanding of:
 1. how cells divide to produce new cells
 2. meiosis as one of the processes producing
genetic variations of the Mendelian Pattern of
Inheritance
B. Performance Standards  Report on the importance of variation in plant and
animal breeding
C. Learning Learning Competency:
Competencies/Objectives
(Write the LC Code for  Predict phenotypic expressions of traits following
each) simple patterns of inheritance.

Learning objectives:

 Describe how Mendel worked on the garden peas

as his genetic tool
 Analyze Mendel’s experiment on garden peas to
illustrate the Mendelian principles of inheritance;
 Solve and predict Mendelian phenotypic and
genotypic expression of traits in a
monohybrid and dihybrid cross;
 Recognize the value of Mendel’s study in today’s
understanding of inheritance and variations of
traits

IV. PROCEDURES Classroom routine
 Prayer
Before we formally start our discussion, okay let’s pray.
Greetings
Good Morning Grade 8.
 Checking of attendance
Who’s your secretary class? Ms. Secretary who’s absent
today?
 Classroom management
Are we clear to our rules inside this classroom grade 8?
 Trivia of the day
The fingerprint-based test even works on dead bodies, and
is being used by coroners to help investigate cause of
death.

 Review of the past lesson.

Now, who can still remember our lesson last meeting?
Let us recall, the last meeting we discuss about
chromosome and the first phase of cell cycle, the
interphase. We also discuss the cell division the mitosis
and meiosis.

Who can tell what are the three types of interphase? Very
good, it is the g1 phase, s phase and the g2 phase.

Who can tell me the 4 types of mitotic phase?

A. Establishing a purpose  Motivation

for the lesson But first let’s have a short energizer. Let’s play a game
called! PICTURE FORMULA. Direction: Determine
the missing words by analyzing the given pictures.

B. Presenting  Presentation of Topic

examples/instances of the Have you ever wondered why we look similar to?
new lesson our parents, why plants and animals produce
their own kind?

Sometimes you hear people say that you have

your father’s height, your mother's nose, your
grandfather’s eyes, and your grandmother’s
mouth.

Well, traits really are inherited from our parents.

How did this happen? By discussing our topic
today, you will understand how traits are passed
from one generation to the next.
But before we discuss about our lesson today let
us first read our objective.
C. Discussing new concepts  Lesson Proper
and practicing new skills Genes, genetics, heredity, dominant, recessive alleles, law
#1 of dominance and law of segregation are some of the
words that you might be encounter as we go along in
our topic for today. So, our topic for today is about
genetics particularly the Mendelian genetics.

So, what is genetics?

Genetics – is the specific study of heredity and variation

How about heredity?

Heredity – is study of how traits are passed on
from parents from parents to offspring.

How genetics started?

The scientific study of heredity started with the

experiments of Gregor Johann Mendel. Gregor Mendel is
an Austrian monk. In a monastery, he spent his
time in investigating how individual traits were
inherited. It all began with garden peas; he used the
garden peas (Pisum sativum) in his experiments.

Using Pea plant Mendel observed these seven

traits. These are seed shape, seed color, pod shape,
pod color, flower color, flower location, and plant size.

D. Discussing new concepts Do you have any idea class why Gregor Mendel used
and practicing new skills garden peas?
#2
Class it is because the garden pea is an ideal subject in the
study of genetics because:
• Presence of observable traits with contrasting
forms
• Produces many offspring in one cross
• Short life cycle
• Ease in manipulating pollination
(crosspollination).
E. Developing mastery

Assessment 3)
F. Finding practical
application of concepts
and skills in daily living

Look at the two pictures, can you identify in which one do

people has a potential to live?
G. Making generalizations Does the atmosphere contribute to why the Earth is
and abstractions about livable?
the lesson
H. Evaluating learning Directions: Choose the best answer from the given
choices.

1. In which layer of the atmosphere where nearly all-

weather phenomena occur?
A. Mesosphere
B. Stratosphere
C. Thermosphere
D. Troposphere

2. Which layer protects us from harmful ultraviolet rays?

A. Mesosphere
B. Stratosphere
C. Troposphere
D. Ozone layer

3. In which layer of the earth’s atmosphere does meteors

burn up?
A. Mesosphere
B. Stratosphere
C. Thermosphere
D. Troposphere

4. In which layer of the earth’s atmosphere do satellites

usually found?
A. Mesosphere
B. Stratosphere
C. Thermosphere
D. Exosphere

5. Why is the presence of ozone important for the survival

of living things on Earth?
A. It warms Earth’s surface.
B. It helps in cloud formation.

ultraviolet rays.
