Orion
The Hunter

Poseidon, the god of the seas and the Gorgon, Medusa snuggled each other with
pleasure. Poseidon looked at Medusa with the long, scary snakes coming out of her
head. Medusa looked at Poseidon with his humongous body and incredible trident.
Then Perseus brought an end to Poseidon’s and Medusa's relationship by chopping off
Medusa's head. Poseidon was struck with pain and anger. He wanted to get revenge by
taking Perseus’s life but knew it would never happen because Perseus was the son of
Zeus.
After Poseidon’s great loss, he started mingling with Medusa's sister, Euryale.
From this mingling came a child, Orion. Orion was spoiled at a young age by his father
and this spoiling led to him becoming greedy and selfish as he grew up.
“He is so handsome,” said Eurayle with excitement. Orion was her first child and
it wasn’t a gorgon so she was very happy.
“Orion is going to be brave, and I am going to make him a strong warrior,” said
Poseidon, giving his wife a warm smile.
“I am going to give him the best gift ever,” said Poseidon.
“What is it going to be?” said Eurayle in anxiousness.
“The power to walk on water,” said Poseidon with confidence.
The room sat silent for the next five minutes as Poseidon and Euryale thought about
how great their son was going to be. When Orion grew up he became more and more
spoiled. He didn’t know what his last, and greatest gift was going to be. His dad waited
for the right time and gifted him with the ability to walk on water. His dad then decided to
give him his gift.
“Yes son, I will give you one of the greatest gifts of all time,” said Poseidon in a
proud voice.
“Really?” said Orion.
“You will be able to walk to different islands, different countries, and even
different worlds,”
“I can’t wait!” said Orion in excitement. Orion’s eyes were wide and his mouth
broke into a huge smile.”
When Orion got the ability to walk on water it filled him with arrogance, Orion was
also dimwitted by his gifts and his parents spoiling him.
Coincidently, his first wife was also filled with as much dimwittedness and
arrogance as Orion. Her name was Side and she was known to say that she was
prettier than the goddess of beauty herself. Side had curly dark brown hair and deep
dark eyes. She had a nice slim face and skinny body. Hera casted her into a Tartarus,
which was a deep, dark dungeon underground where they would torture her.
Unfortunately for Orion, that was the end of his first relationship.

Orion then, using his ability to walk on water, travelled to the island of Chios to
marry the king’s daughter, Merope. King Oenopion first made him do a task to show if
he was worthy.
“You must clear the whole island of all the wild beasts, and then you will get a
chance to marry my daughter,” said King Oenopion in a loud, strong voice as if he was
talking to everybody on the island.
“I will clear all the beasts, but are you sure you will let me if I clear all the beasts,”
said Orion in suspicion, his eyebrows raised eyes in deep hesitation.
“Yes, I will let you marry my daughter, Merope if you do the task that I’ve told
you,” said the king again in a loud, strong voice.
“I will do,” said Orion, as he turned around and headed for the door to start his
duty.
Orion then went around slaying all the animals. The huge ferocious ones and
small pitty ones. He eventually killed all the animals on the Island of Chios in a short
period of time. He went back to the castle to marry Merope and take her back to his
island, but King Oenopion did not let this happen.
He denied this marriage even though Orion completed the task. King Oenopion
saw that Orion was bragging and being arrogant as he was slaying the animals, and the
king didn't want this type of person to marry his daughter. Orion did not leave the island
though, he stayed there hoping that the king will change his mind about the marriage.
Seeing this the king then called Dionysus to throw a party with for a cunning plan he
had devised.
“I need you to get rid of Orion from my island,” said King Oenopion.
“How am I supposed to do that?” asked Dionysus.
“Get him to drink a lot of wine and when he gets drunk I will blind him,” replied
King Oenopion in anger.
“Are you sure you want to do this to him?” asked Dionysus.
“I am trying to get rid of him and if I blind him he will never come back,” said King
Oenopion in frustration.
The next day Dionysus, the god of wine, threw a party with women and alcohol. Orion
was having a great time with enchanting music, savoury food, and generous wine.

Orion was so tired he fell asleep at the party he didn't remember what happened
but when he woke up he couldn’t see anything and within a few minutes realized he was
blind. He was trying to figure out where he was. He heard the water crashing on the
shore, he felt the soft, warm sand under his feet, and smelt the salt of the ocean. He
figured out that he was on a beach he didn't know what beach, but he was on some sort
of an island. Orion was extremely raged, when he gets back his eyesight back he will
get his revenge on the king.

He used the sounds and help of other people to get to the forge of Hephaestus.
Hephaestus’s helper helped Orion to get to the island of Lemnos, where the sun rose.
Orion went to the island of Lemnos and met Eos. Eos would help Orion get his
eyesight back. Eos leaned forward and kissed Orion’s eyelids which revived his
eyesight. Eos also felt love go towards Orion. Orion thanked Eos and was going back to
the Island of Chios to get his revenge on King Oenopion.
The king got rumours of this information and fled from the island of Chios.
Merope had lost her interest in Orion because he wanted to kill her father. This made
Orion sad and started searching for another wife, while Eos pined for him.
Orion luckily met Artemis on the island of Delos. Orion knew that Artemis was the
goddess of hunting and Artemis knew that Orion was one of the greatest hunters on the
planet. They both fell in love at first sight and knew they were both meant for each
other.
“Hello, Artemis,” said Orion nervously.

“Hi Orion,” said Artemis while blushing.

”I was wondering if you wanted to be my hunting partner because I know you’re

such a great hunter?” asked Orion.

“Yes I will be your companion,” said Artemis in excitement.

This is how Orion and Artemis became hunting partners and they always hunted
together. Artemis and Orion had never met someone with archery skills that rivalled
their own. They would challenge each other and pick targets farther and farther away to
see who was the best. Artemis was very drawn to the muscular man, she never thought
about getting married, but now she felt a connection with him.

Artemis’s brother, Apollo was watching all this romance develop with
distaste. Apollo didn’t want Orion to marry his sister, so he tricked Artemis. Apollo
knew that Orion had two names, Orion and Canadaon. Apollo also knew that
Artemis didn’t know Orions’s second name. Now it just happened that there was
another man in the village named Canadaon. The other fellow was a nasty man,
that Artemis hated because he had been brutal to one of her followers. Then
Apollo set up the plan and he was going to end this relationship for good.

Apollo knew that Orion was going to go swimming, so when he Orion entered the
water, he led Artemis to the water. When they got there Apollo told Artemis that
Canadaon was far out in the sea where Orion was swimming.

“Look there’s Canadaon!” exclaimed Apollo.

“That filthy man, I really want to kill him sometimes,” yelled Artemis in pure anger.

“Then do it,” said Apollo hesitantly.

“He deserves it, he brutally beat up one of my followers,” shouted Artemis

furiously.

In pure anger, she shot an arrow high in the air and it hit the man in the head.
She then said she was going to retrieve the body. She swam all the way there and all
the way back and realized what had happened. Apollo was a hideous and hateful
person and she wanted to strangle him to death. The only man in life that she loved she
shot with an arrow. “How foolish am I?” Artemis asked herself. She was devastated and
her heart was broken.

Artemis and her mother, Leto went to Zeus. Zeus then placed Orion in the
heavens as a constellation, among the stars. Orion went through life carelessly, he
didn’t really care for others. In his spot in the sky, he stayed true to nature. Artemis, still
in love, waved to him often. Orion enjoyed the attention his constellation drew but never
waved back.
