1. The situation of practice of medicine in England was that the only ones with the
knowledge about medicine was the traveling barbers with a little knowledge about
treating people’s sickness. Some people in England during their time also believes that
only the grace of God can save a person from their illness. Any other kinds of healings or
treatments is considered to be a witchcraft and a dispute to the teachings of the church.
On the other hand, science practices in Iran flourishes. They can treat more treatments
than in England and they have a university and a master who teaches how to treat people.
They are far more advanced than England.

2. This is a scene where they are

praying for the mother of the
kid. They believed that there
is no cure for the sickness
of the woman but the
grace of God. Otherwise,
any other treatment done by a
barber is a witchcraft. Anyone
performing witchcraft is
disputing the teachings of the
Church.

In this scene, the barber used

pliers to remove a tooth
from the farmer suffering
from a toothache.

Rob had his first try of

amputating a man’s leg.
They used an iron after they
cut it so that it would heal
faster. The y used it to seal the
wound off.
The barber used the leech to
treat the man.

Rob brought the barber to the

that he can see again from
being blinded from the

Rob traveled going to Persia to

up a poison to kill the rats
which can help decrease the
number of affected people
with the plague.

He used the corpse of the dead

and dissected him after his

understand more the
internal organs of the
body and he drew it.

3. The implication of the circumcision event in the story is that, Rob did circumcise himself
so that he could appear as a Jewish so that he could be accommodated by the Persians
and be admitted to the master’s classes.
4. The most important medical breakthrough in the story was when Rob has seen the
internal anatomy of the human body with his own eyes and proved that everything or
mostly what they have been studying are wrong. He was able to discover more about the
body and he was able to treat side sicknesses finding out which body part is being affected
that causes illness in the body.
