message from your P R E S I D E N T

Hello key clubbers,
Halloween is coming so soon! I hope everyone is having a nice time picking out their costumes! But what can I say
for me the best costume for Halloween would be a Key Clubber, it is original and "legit". In the spirit of Halloween, I hope
that everyone is going around with their UNICEF boxes and asking for donations! You can be the cool person to be getting
money rather than candy and the money goes to a great cause! My goals for this year is to raise at least $500 dollars for
UNICEF, and I need your help in making that happen! So if you haven't gotten your box, you can always get it at the gen-
eral meetings on Tuesday during lunch time, so start and collect donations! Just a little incentive, their MIGHT (Pretty cer-
tain) be a reward for raising the most funds for UNICEF so start on your boxes now!, there is no time to waste!

Key Club President 2010-2011

Spread your love during K E Y C L U B W E E K

Key Club Week gives you the opportunity to show your community what Key Club is truly about: service.
Each day places an emphasis on service, to promote Key Club within our homes, schools and communities
and to make Key Club a household name.

MONDAY, NOV. 1
Show your K in every way—Show people what Key Club is all about! Spread the word by wearing Key Club
gear and publicizing Key Club Week in local stores, your school Web site, community newspapers—even on
the radio. Officially announce Key Club Week in your community with a proclamation and refer to the Key

SHOW YO
Club public relations manual to get great tips on how to publicize Key Club in your community.

TUESDAY, NOV. 2 UR K
Kudos to the Key players—Personally thank all the Key Club supporters you know—teachers, advisors and other
Key players. Write thank-you notes, host an appreciation dinner or do something uniquely your own style to rec-
ognize the contributions of these special people.

WEDNESDAY, NOV. 3
Connect the Ks—Key Club is the largest high school service organization in the world and is a member of the
Kiwanis family. Celebrate the entire family of Kiwanis by getting the whole gang involved. Connect with local
Kiwanis, Circle K International, Builders, Kiwanis Kids or Aktion clubs and team up for a joint service project.

THURSDAY, NOV. 4
Bring a friend to Key Club—More members = more service. Increasing the amount of service Key Club performs
increases the impact Key Club has on the world. Bring a friend, or two, or more to your next Key Club meeting.
Download recruitment resources.

party or combine activities from the other Key Club Week days. Whatever idea you choose, take it and run
with it.

Know more about KEY LEADER

Key Leader is a program designed to inspire young people to
achieve their personal best through service leadership. You meet a lot of
nice people achieving the same goals, dreams, and experiences. You
form friendship, responsibility, courage, determination. You learn the core
values of life, yourself, and people. Key Leader is a great program that is
sponsored and inspired by Kiwanis International to do just that. The cost is
$160 dollars, but you can get it for free or reduce by applying for the Key
Leader Scholarship! Contact your Kiwanis advisor or Hue Tran
(cnhkc.dt1011@gmail.com ). If you want to go, email Danny Huynh for the
application. Its a great program, life-breaking fun weekend away from

CHINESE MOON FESTIVAL

After weeks of preparation, all of the volunteers' hard work paid off. As
part of the committee, Independence's Key Club helped run the 16th
annual Chinese Moon Festival event from morning to night on Sunday,
September 26 in Overfelt Gardens. Each club that participated had
their own crafts and Key Club's were Lion Faces and Paper Bag Ani-
mals. Volunteers helped children make these crafts and express their
creativity. Many families and children came to experience the joy of
craft making and brought home not only the many crafts they made
but also a smile. It was a pleasure helping out the Chinese Moon Festi-
val, filled with the freedom of creativity and the thrill of learning the
Chinese culture, that continued and will continue pleasing all that at-
tend.

William Nguyen, Project Director

RTC
14 Key Club members took part of the Region Training Conference,
during the weekend of September 25th and 26th. Saturday, they at-
tended workshops on various Key Club things, performed a skit during
the night camp fire, and danced the night away in the dinning hall.
Sunday, they attended the 12e dcm, where they won the most atten-
dees award, the outdoor games, and closing session. After RTC, we
helped our Kiwanis make a video for the Salvation Army. This memora-
ble experience brought awareness and inclusiveness to the members
who attended.
