INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

The Lewis College is an institution built to provide students a comfortable and healthy

place to learn and develop, as well as for the teachers and parents; a community based system

enclosed to maintain sanity and wellness for each of the individual. Nowadays discipline in

maintaining an environment clean and organized is only observed through rules and routines,

which is hardly achieved of the students if not monitored. Even though a regular maintenance is

done by the housekeeping department and the round checks, trash can are seen everywhere some

students can’t comply to “No littering, No loitering” rule posted throughout the buildings.

This study will discuss further for the investigation and a give out solution for the

betterment of the practicality of the condition. The study aims to tackle the state of the condition

and give underlying solutions to the problem seen, the researchers are to find new ways or

maintain and monitor the existing system in conserving the institution clean and safe. The impact

of this will last long-term and shoulder the students, faculties of teachers and parents; another

thing to highlight is the canteen and the cleanliness of their area.

ARTICLES THAT CAN SERVE AS A GLIMPSE OF THE STUDY.
Statement of the Problem

This study aims to answer the following questions and promote cleanliness throughout the

campus:

1. What are the lacking strategies or means of no littering policy of TLC?

2. What are the other techniques and ways for the students to comply the littering policies?

3. What are the possible policies to be implemented by the institution and its punishments?
Significance of the study

This study comprises the following respondents:

Students. The students of The Lewis College will benefit in this study, because they will be

aware of the outcomes of Littering rules in the institution and they can start to be responsible in

their actions since the students are the majority of the campus; they make up the most population

and the ones who make the most waste in addition the students use mostly the all facilities.

Teachers/Professor/Housekeeping Faculty. This study will be a call for those in author to

control the students for their attitudes and behavior towards waste management. The

housekeeping department will be aware in what areas of their system that still needs compliance

and improvements.

School Administrators. The school administrators of TLC gain in this study in terms of they

can have knowledge about the actions of the students towards the littering rules of the institution.

To give specific solutions as well as implementations and also to help the teachers improving the

students behavior towards waste management.

Future Researcher. The future researcher will have an advantage in this study. When it comes

to that they can have basis and they can get information related to the topic about Compliance of

students on the littering policy in The Lewis College.

Scope and Delimitations

This study focused on the maintenance of the campus and the state of cleanliness that will

only cover the means and give out further solutions to possible problems like unable to fulfill and

observe daily cleanup of the students in their respective classrooms undisciplined use of

bathrooms and unmonitored littering.

This study is planned for students of The Lewis College and to promote sanitation and

preservation of it.

This study is limited for the students only in The Lewis College in Sorsogon. The study

shall be taken place the entire school year to promote the properness and disciplinary acts on the

institution.
Definition of Terms

Compliance is either a state of being in accordance with established guidelines or

specifications, or the process of becoming so. Software, The definition of compliance can also

encompass efforts to ensure that organizations are abiding by both industry regulations and

government legislation. According to the article (2017 Margaret Rouse) the guidelines,

specifications and the process are similar in the study that should be considered, the regulations

and rules are to be monitored and to investigate further understanding on the situation.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

The research methods for the study is discussed in this chapter and in accordance for the

statement of the problem stated in Chapter I that is appropriate for it to use that will comply with

the objective of the research.

This section will further discuss the means of strategic development towards achieving

the objective.

Research Design

The Research Design specifically tackle the technique of research going to be used,

resources to be used and the procedure of data collection specifically survey and examination of

the gathered data.

The researchers will apply Qualitative Descriptive Design to gather data. Through this,

the researchers will be able to understand and analyse the problem with underlying solutions

with the connection to the statement of the problem.

Population Sampling

The target population for this research defined to include the grade 12 students with the

total of 50 respondents in The Lewis College.

This study will be conducted in The Lewis College survey questionnaires shall be

considered given out for a week of monitory to students, teacher and professors, housekeeping

department and the parents. The study should be taken place the entire school year and shall be

continued to be implemented.

The Instruments

The survey questionnaire was used to gather the data needed in this research study. We
divided it by sections and grade levels. It is the requirement of this research study about the
Compliance of students on the littering policy in The Lewis College.

The extent of littering of the students occurrences was identified, the questionnaire
contained indication of the specific cause of littering based on the respondents answer. The
respondents were requested to evaluate, based on their perceptions such as no strict
implementation of rules, there are no enough trash cans, not disciplined enough, no sanctions
given to those who do not throw properly, others and recommendations about how to lessen the
littering of the students.

The questionnaire has two questions and one recommendation about the behavioural
actions of students in littering in The Lewis College. The question was focus on the perceptions
of the students for being not responsible in their trash. The recommendation is about the opinions
of the students that the institution should be strict in implementing rules in The Lewis College.

Data Gathering Procedures

Letters of request to the respondent school and the respondent were secured by our
inquiries, investigation and immersion teacher and the vice principalof The Lewis College before
the administration of the survey. The letters were distributed to the respondent’s school in The
Lewis Collegeand respondent to seek approval on the survey schedules.

When the letter of survey schedules was confirmed by the teachers and vice principal,
the researchers proceeded to conduct a survey or the distribution of the survey questionnaire
among the students or respondents of The Lewis College were done. The survey questionnaire
was required to conduct on January 29 to February 1, 2018 but the researchers conducted from
January 30 and finished on February 1.

All of the survey questionnaires were personally distributed by the researchers,

administrated and retrieved by the researchers. The respondents were given data information and
instructions and guidance in filling out the survey questionnaires to ensure right way to answer.
Some of the respondents didn’t actually understand the questionnaire, specifically about the
recommendation problems that students encounter in throwing garbage in trash cans. The filled
out survey questionnaire was finished less than two days after the distribution. The researcher
collected the filled out questionnaire for the tabulation of the data gathered with analysis and
interpretation as well as using statistical tool.

Data Analysis Procedures

The data collected were interpretive and analyzed by the use of an appropriate
statistical tool and methods. To determine the population size of students or respondents by the
use of Slovin’s formula .The formula was used to sum up the respondents population. Frequency
count was use to tally the respondents answers and weighted was computed. (SHOW THE

CHAPTER V

SUMMARY, FINDINGS, CONCLUSIONS, AND

RECOMMENDATIONS

This chapter presents the summary, findings, conclusions, and recommendations based
from the analysis and interpretation of the gathered data in this study.

SUMMARY

The Researchers studies the compliance of The Lewis College Students to littering
policy. According to the findings of results from conducted survey questionnaires the students
sometimes throw their garbage in the cans. Followed the result always then never. The result
problem encountered according to the population is disciplinary related factor followed by issues
of strict implementation of rules, no sanctions given, matter about supply of trash cans and other
matters. Recommendations are varied stated.

TO SHORT? THERE IS NO DETAILS ?

FINDINGS

Based from our survey in figure 1, it shows that almost half of the students rarely throw
their garbage with the percentage of 54% followed by 44% of students who regularly throw their
garbage and in all of our respondents there is only one who admitted that he/she never thrown
their trash with a percentage of 2%.

As shown in Figure 2 of what the researchers gathered The majority problem encountered
by the students in throwing their garbage is no strict implementation of rules in The Lewis
College with a percentage of 46%. So therefore the institution must be aware of the students
perspective for the sake of the institution and the ones who are included in the school.

GOOD BUT ADD MORE

CONCLUSION

Due to behavioral impact to students their ability to comply their responsibilities in littering
rules are not achieved. Certain matters and possible means are stated to root the plausible reason.
Being responsible to the environment as much as we do to ourselves should be on top of our
priority. We all know that cases like this are not easily avoided therefore we should not tolerate it
that will result to further damages instead we should now start preserving simple ways to keep
our place clean. There are still indirect impacts to the students that sometimes caused them to be
undisciplined that is why this study will help them to know what is and what should not be.

ADD MORE

RECOMMENDATION

The study was conducted successfully but still for future studies that seek deeper,
elaborated and more accurate information the researchers should have the authority to implement
a school year monitory, this time frame shall prove and give them daily checking and
maintenance as well. Not only this will gradually help the school keep their environment safe but
grow the students with proper influence and discipline.
