CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
Proper segregation is the sorting and separation of waste types to facilitate recycling and correct
onward disposal. Proper waste segregation management is the most common practices throughout
the solid waste problems. This helps the school to have a clean environment and give students a
clean place to study.

Proper segregation can be done by anyone even if you're just a child. Waste management in
Philippines started in 2001. It was proclaimed as Republic Act 9003 otherwise known as the
Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 that declares the policy of the state to adopt a
systematic, comprehensive, and ecological solid waste management program.

Republic Act 9003 provides the necessary policy framework, institutional mechanisms and
mandate to the local government unites (LGU) to achieve 25% waste reduction through
establishing an integrated solid waste management plans based on 3R's (reduce, reuse. recycle).
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
Improper segregation is one of the most common issue in SLRNHS. The researchers
conducted a research study to let the students gain more knowledge and practice the
practices that prevent improper segregation.

In this research study, the following questions were answerd:

1. What are the current waste segregation practices in SLRNHS?

2. What are the factors that hinder the proper waste segregation?

3. How can students minimize the effects of those factors?

4. What can we do to prevent improper segregation practices?

5. What should we do to encourage our fellow students to practice proper waste segregation?

03
SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS
This study focuses on the factors preventing proper waste segregation in San Lorenzo
Ruiz National High School. The data collection will be conducted from the Yes-O
officers by interviewing them about the topic.

This study will not cover other problems that are not consider as factors that hinders
proper waste segregation. Each officers will be ask different questions about the topic.
The result of this study will be applicable through the students of San Lorenzo Ruiz
National High School. The main source of data will be the answers of the interviewed
officers which will be collected by the researchers.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
The aim of this research paper is to avoid the factors that hinders proper waste
segregation. We will discuss those factors and how can students avoid them. We will
review the current state of knowledge and identifying gaps in our research. We will also
present the percentage of the effects of improper waste segregation by conducting an
interview with the Yes-O president and other officers and students in SLRNHS.

Overall this research report aims to show how important proper waste segregation were. It
also aims to show how to avoid the factors hindering proper segregation and how can
students do the practices. The readers should be able to learn how to avoid the factors
that hinders proper waste segregation. Readers should be able to leam the basic
practices in proper waste segregation and they should be able to identify every factors
that hinders proper waste management.

05
This research would be beneficial to the students because they will know the
negative effects of having an improper waste segregation. In this study the
students can be aware on things improper segregation can do to their school.
This research would be help to the teachers because they will be able to
identify the factors hindering proper waste segregation and they will be able to
teach their students the practices they can do to avoid those factors. This
research would be beneficial to fisture researchers because they can get some
information that might needed in their research and some of their question
might probably be answered by this research
DEFINITION OF TERMS
1. Seg*re*ga*tion
noun

noun: segregation; plural noun: segregations

1. The action or state of setting someone or something apart from others.

"a model that perpetuates the segregation of older people"

the enforced separation of different racial groups in a country, community, or

establishment.
"an official policy of racial segregation?"

2.GENETICS - the separation of pairs of alleles at meiosis and their

independent transmission via separate gametes.
06
2. Waste-(or wastes) are unwanted or unusable materials Waste is any substance
discarded after primary use, or is worthless, defective and of no use. A by-product, by
contrast is a joint product of relatively minor economic value. A waste product may
become a by-product, joint product or resource through an invention that raises a
waste product's value above zero.

3.YES-O-Accordingly, the Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O) is

the only recognized co-curricular environmental organization in the basic education
that serves as a venue for students' actions and movements towards safeguarding,
protecting and conserving the environment for future generations.

4.Factors something that helps produce or influence a result one of the things that
cause something to happen. There were several factors contributing to their recent
decline. Poor planning was a major factor in the company's failure. Cost was the
decisive/deciding/determining factor in their decision.
07
7.Biodegradable to decay naturally and in a way that is not harmful. Some
plastics are designed to biodegrade when their useful life is over.
Environmental issues.

8. Minimize to reduce something to the least possible level or amount. We

must minimize the risk of infection. Environmentalists are doing everything
within their power to minimize the impact of the oil spill.

9. Proper is an adjective that describes something that is appropriate,

adheres to polite behavior, or is correct. Proper is also used in grammar to
refer to nouns that identify specific people, places, or things. The word proper
has additional senses as an adjective, adverb, and noun.

CHAPTER II
METHODS AND PROCEDURE

Method Used
The methods of data collection used in this research study
include internet surfing and conducting interviews. The
limited information found in both on books and websites
suffice its objectives.

09
CHAPTER III.
RESULT OF INVESTIGATION
The current practices being used in SLRNHS are segregation of plastic and
biodegradable, melting the plastic bottles for furniture, using biodegradable as
compost. Other practices such as making flower pots from plastic bottles were
forbidden by the school Principal because it doesn't dissolve like a seeding bag.
Burning plastics are also forbidden because it can result in pollution. Yes O
collect and use plastic bottles to make room accessories that can be sell to gain
funds for their organization. They also collect papers room by room and sell them
so that it won't go to waste. "Every single garbage have its price, it shouldn't go
to waste. We rinse recycle and sell so that we can gain benefits to the things we
thought have no value" said by the Yes O President Students of the SLRNHS
also uses the 3R's method but sad to say that only some of the students practice
this method. 10
The only factors that stands as hindrance to the proper waste segregation
is the laziness and having no idea about the importance of practicing
proper segregation. Students are not aware of the threats improper
segregation can bring to their lives. They are not taking it serious enough,
some of the student even laughs when our officers going around the
campus collecting recyclables. This leads to loosing the confidence of our
fellow members to do their task because they were afraid to be laugh at by
our own schoolmates.

The students can minimize its effect by having pro-active action. And also,
by helping each other to clean our school. They can also minimize its effect
if they practice the practices discussed above.
11
One of the biggest solution that we know is to encourage our fellow
students to participate to our rules and regulations participation can do
more than working alone. If everyone participates this common issue will
be solved in no time.

We need to discipline our fellow classmates to follow the school guidelines

like practicing the proper waste segregation, also by keep reminding them
the proper way to help them absorb the right thing to do inside the school.
And we can initiate activities and seminars to let the students know
different practices works and how can they prevent improper waste
segregation as a students gaining knowledge can lead to a successful
projects and activities.
12
We can encourage them by showing then positive results of segregations.
We can also encourage them by making events and proposals that's not
only focuses on exciting games but also focuses on the common problem
in our school which is improper segregations. We can also encourage them
by initiating enjoyable and fun activities that connected to the segregation
of wastes. Students are more into fim activities and enjoyable projects than
implementing rules and restrictions

The graph shows that segregation is the most and practice in San
Lorenzo Ruiz National High School. The graph also shows that melting
plastic bottles use the least used practice in SLRNHS. Maybe because it
takes a lot of time to do and it causes pollution through the air.

Students who knows 3R's
10%

The graph shows that 90% of the students doesn't

know how 3R's works, and only 10% of the
students knows 3R. This means that the students
need to learn more about segregation and waste
disposal because it's a big impact to the school if
they are not aware of what's going to happen if
improper segregation continues to grown in
SLRNHS.

CHAPTER IV
SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

Everyone agreed that improper segregation is the most

common problem in SLRNHS. However this common
problem becomes the biggest problem to the students
because of the factors that hinders proper segregation. And
also because of the ignorance of some students through the
school rules and advices of the YES-O organization and
their teachers.

14
In conclusion, the school of San Lorenzo Ruiz National High
School (SLRNHS) is facing a big issue. This can be resolved by
being aware of what's going on through their segregation of waste.
Students are aware but they are not making actions to solve this
issue. Yes they have YES-O organization but they cannot do it
alone, they also need the help and participation of the students.
"Action speaks louder than voices." All students should be
responsible for their garbage. Problems are meant to be solved
but they can't solve it if they are not cooperative with the rules and
regulations of the school. Being students doesn't mean that the
only thing you'll do is to study, you should also be responsible for
the cleanliness of your school.
The researchers recommend that all students choose to
learn than to ignore. Learning new practices sounds boring
but it helps a lot. A simple picking of garbage wouldn't take
less that more than 3 seconds to do but you'll help your
school and other organizations to keep the school clean
Small actions have a big impact. Maybe you can't see it
now but when the time comes, you'll see how big your small
deed do to your beloved school.
Be disciplined, being a disciplined student is the most wanted thing of a
teacher and also your mother. Be smart about your actives and be careful
about your decisions because you'll never know if you're being a problem
or fixing a problem. The researchers also recommends that the YES-O
organization initiate some fun and joyful activities in their school. Activities
that will excite students and encourage them to participate in the activity.
We also recommend that they initiate seminars and guidance to the
student seminars that teaches students how to recycle and what they can
do to their garbages. They can also do self-assesment to every grade
level and award the most participative grade level. Simple activities but
have a big impact through the problems of the school.
