Chapter 1
INTRODUCTION

Situation Analysis

We all know that absenteeism is the one of the most problem in our school.

Absenteeism can affect the grades of every learners. Absenteeism affect the academic

performance of HUMSS Learners. Performances of the students becomes a effective

when they attend the classes on regular basis, they get a higher grades and marks in the

examination who got than those students who got absent from classes in school.

Absenteeism can affect of students attitude and behaviour of students in school.

Absenteeism can affect individual productivity. Absenteeism is the habitual or

intentional failure from going school. It cannot denied that every now and

then, students miss some school activities and lesson in our subject. Some students are

they have a problems of their family or financial problem. Some students could be

lacking interests of their study. But it becomes a problem if the student will be away

from school for many days. Students absents are placed of disadvantage both socially

and academically. Absenteeism is a obligation without a good reason of their teacher.

Absenteeism not only affects the academic progress of the student, but also influences

the in class planning of the teacher and at the same time the motivations of the other

students in the class. Absenteeism means employee absent from the job due to reason

of sickness, death of relatives family. Stent absenteeism can be contributed by many

factors.

On the other hand, contamination of sickness and disease can be avoidable

because of they absences of a person. A students attendance maybe the grounds of the

results of his or her learning performance. School administration and faculty may also
affect the absenteeism rate of their student, and so ask the population of those who

practise absenteeism affect the administration and school.

It's a mistake to think that absenteeism is always a product of laziness or

employees who try to get out of work whenever they can. There can be underlying

causes that are more to do with your work place than with the employees themselves.

First is the bullying, bullying is an issue that has been affecting many students. It

takes place in many forms some of which are direct and include physical harm on the

victims.

Verbal bullying involves name calling and insults or threats being directed at the

victims and may also involve emotional bullying where the victims emotions are

targeted by the bully. Other forms of bullying maybe in the indirect where the harm is

not cause by the person directly but it still ends up affecting the person.

Framework of the study

Most schools and districts focus their anti-bullying efforts on students in grades

6-12. A recent study on chronic absenteeism and bullying by the John Hopkins

University Center for Social Organization challenges schools to direct attention to

even younger students, in as early as third or fourth grade.

Until recently, I didn’t think of chronic absenteeism as a major challenge for K-

12 education, but, thanks to this study and talking to colleagues, now I do. Here’s a

summary of some of the study’s findings:

From the earliest years of education on, chronic absenteeism can be associated

with poor performance.

Chronic absenteeism missing 10% or more of the school year increases

achievement gaps at elementary, middle and high school levels.

Chronic absenteeism is most prevalent in poor, rural communities, occurring

regardless of race and gender.

There is a strong correlation between chronic absenteeism and bullying, and

efforts to eliminate bullying can reduce chronic absenteeism, which in turn improves

student performance.

The most impact time to reduce chronic absenteeism and bullying is in

elementary grades 3 and 4.

Here’s something to consider: even absenteeism is no longer an entirely effective

way for students to avoid bullying. Before the advent of the digital classroom and

social media, students could find solace in staying home. The rise of cyber bullying,

however, has prevented this from happening, which exacerbates the issue for K-12

students, seeing as how bullying can be a continuous, inescapable threat.

This strengthens the need for services like Gaggle Safety Management, which

provides schools and districts with early warning detection of cyber bullying, self-

harm and serious threats.

More importantly, the last bullet point communicates that the most impact time to

reduce chronic absenteeism and bullying is during earlier elementary grades. A lot of

superintendents, technology administrators and educators who I’ve spoken with

believe that our Safety Management service isn’t necessary for students until the 9th

grade although some will start as early as in grades 6 or 7. The reason is simple:

they don’t see the manifestation of serious bullying issues until students become

older.

This appears to be an indication of a flaw in our attitude towards bullying. The

focus is less on prevention and more on reaction, which I believe is the wrong way to
address the issue. It’s far more effective to begin eliminating bullying earlier, during a

student’s and moral formation.

For these reasons, when you consider implementing Safety Management for G

Suite or Office 365 for your school or district, consider the value these services might

have for your younger students, not simply for students in middle school or high

school. State by https://www-researchgate.net .

Statement of the problem

This study aims to know the effects of absenteeism to the academic performance

of HUMSS learners in Aringay National High School.Specifically, this study sought

to answer the following:

1. What are the common reasons why HUMSS learners tend to be absent during class

hours?

2.What are the effects of absenteeism to the academic performance of the learners?

3. What are the possible ways to avoid absenteeism?

Definition of Terms

These absenteeism levels decrease the level of production because of work

specialization. One analysis given that, absenteeism brings out hundreds of cases of

negative impact on the building of future of students.Empirical evidences confirm that

absenteeism produce the high level of problems and failure.Due to absenteeism and

poor coordination lead to miss the chance to take the guide line about preparing the

assignments according to guideline.Frequent physically absent students have poor

coordination with their classmates in their group studies.

Chronic absenteeism does not only affect individual students but impacts overall

school outcomes.Begin to experience a number of barriers to academic success,

school-wide scores that in turn impact school funding,in written outputs,on the spot

performances. There are many factors like family health, financial problem, poor school

environment, transportation problems, and differing community attitudes towards

education that affect student absenteeism.

Based on previous research conducted by researchers contributing to the major

problems of the absenteeism such as parental responsibility, incondusive studying

environment, administration role, and lectures role and so on. Illness or injury from

relatively harmless illnesses like cold and flu, to move serious health issues.Family

care, Bullying, or either Burnout.

METHODOLOGY

Research Design

This study is a descriptive survey research where the respondents are

selected randomly in Humss 11 in Aringay National High School. The researches used

descriptive survey research because is a scientific method which involves observing

and describing the behaviour of the learners in Humss Aringay National High School.

Data Sources

The respondents of this study are the HUMSS 11 learners in Aringay

National High School with registered from the secretary of every classroom that in

charged of conducting if how many absences did every section had.The list of

absences is reflected in their section.

Instrumentation and Data Collection

The study used a connected liability to the researcher made questionnaire

to collect the data on the profile and strategies of HUMSS 11 learners in Aringay

National High School. Aringay La Union content validation was undertaken by

showing the set draft of a questionnaire to at least 4-5 personnel in charge in

monitoring and evaluating the member shown of the panel. The researcher may

include the academic performance from the start.

Data Analysis

The study used to frequency counts and percentages to describes the

profile of an individual through strategies of Aringay Natonal High School individual

HUMSS 11 learners at Poblacion , Aringay La Unioin to their relative really

conducting absences and synchronized.

SUMMARY,CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

This chapter presents the summary of findings made ,the conclusions drawn ,and

the recommendations advanced as a result of the study conducted..

Summary

The study assessed the “EFFECT OF ABSENTEEISM TO THE ACADEMIC

PERFORMANCE OF GRADE 11 HUMSS LEARNERS” of the Aringay National

High School, Aringay District, Division of La Union during the school year 2019-

2020.

The study involved Thirty (30) learners and the researchers made use of survey-

questionaire as the main data-gathering tool for the study.Frequency counts,

percentages, rankings and average weighted means were used to quantify the data

gathered.

The respondents of this study are the HUMSS 11 learners in Aringay

National High School with registered from the secretary of every classroom that in

charged of conducting if how many absences did every section had.The list of

absences is reflected in their section.

Major Findings
The following were the salient findings of the study:

1. The common reason why Humss 11 learners tend to be absent then how

far/distance/long of their house to the school.

2. The Absenteeism of the Humss 11 learners may affect their ability interact with

someone.

3. The Absenteeism of the Humss 11 learners may affect their academic performance

in subject knowledge is outdated compared in other students.

4. There is significant relationship between the common reason why learners tend to

be absent and the effect of Absenteeism were verified.

Conclusion

1. Must give the opportunity to implement, time management and explaining the

reason for understanding among of it.Lack of subject interest, bad grades struggling

in class can be demoralizing.

2. Technically the aspects of up-lining effect to absenteeism for somebody, may

lessen the hardworking of the parents and also the guardian then became useless at

the same time.Illnesses like cold and flu to more serious health issues like chronic

back problem and financial.

3. Probably the scold upon the parents and a student ,he/she learner. Can miss the

chance to become part in class participants.

4.Into family, a peers, neighbors and even in social media friend.Low competence

and understanding strict school management cause rebellion.

Recommendation
1. Education parents about how absences as early as pre-k can impact reading and

math skills and how middle/high school absences are linked to dropout.

2. Encourage teachers to speak to parents about absences.Specific information about

the lessons students are missing can be helpful.

3. Help parents keep track of the number of absences. Let them know how their

children compare to others in the class.

4. Take stock of community members who play critical roles in kids ‘lives, and enlist

their help.
