THE PROBLEM
Introduction
School is said to be the second home of students, the place where children
learns and mold to become someone they want to be and to achieve their dreams.
But school is also a battlefield where students need to fight in order to survive and
sadly it also becomes the second home of the bullies. A research has shown that
as much as
30% of students have been impacted by bullying (Nansel et al., 2001). The
remaining
70% have most likely observed bullying behavior in their school career (Polanin et
al., 2012). Coloroso (2004) found that 86% of students from the range of 12-15
years old recorded that they have been teased or bullied at school.
bullying that is more rampant because of the technology and it grows more serious
and poignant to students. And what's alarming is that the breeding ground of this
plague is our school. Our very own second home is also the ground for bullies.
Several studies denoted that bullying makes schools to be deleterious places for
students and it contributes in the belief that some schools are becoming unsafe
(Maliki et al., 2009). These students also have elevated the risk for depression,
anxiety, loneliness, and low self-esteem. These effects impact students throughout
their adolescent years, and continue to their adulthood (Espelage & Swearer,
2004). More importantly, it can have an impact on the student’s physical and
mental health. Students who have been a victim of bullying have a heightened
threat of forming social and emotional demeanor problems and students who are
part of the Bullying process were more probably to have academic issues than
students who have not been part of the bullying process (Glew et al., 2008)
We may not seem to notice events such as bullying but some incidents
must be as clear as crystal, we can't just determine if its already a deed of bullying
or just another forms of it. Bullying occurs in many different forms. The utmost
general form of bullying used by both female and male students is verbal bullying,
bullies. Researchers as a bully before, didn't know the effects of bullying to one's
individual. In our study we will find out what are the effects of bullying in the
