Unit 3 Project Proposal Text based document: An improvement plan for the Enterprise

Rental Car Agency

The project that I have chosen for English 320 will be to create a business improvement plan for
the national leasing company known as Enterprise. The plan will include the necessary actions
on how to set the company in a better direction and increase their sales revenue using different
sales methods.

Enterprise Rent-A-Car is the single largest rental car company in North America, with over
65,000 employees. Originally started as a leasing company, we provide car sale, fleet
management, commercial truck rentals, and van pool programs. Customers can rent vehicles by
walk-up, reservation (online or by phone), or through their employers.

Although they are the largest in the nation, Enterprise has struggled with sales in the Fargo-
Moorhead area, particularly at Hector International airport, which is the largest location of the
metro. Competitors at this location include Avis, Budget, Hertz, and National/Alamo. The
company has had a consistent revenue below that of Avis, Hertz, and National/Alamo in past
years and with this year also. Total revenue for past months in this year has been around only
11% to 14% of the total revenue generated by all of the rental car companies at Hector
International Airport.

Although Enterprise is the largest rental car company in North America, the statistics clearly
show that the Hector International Airport location is failing to keep up with the competition
and requires attention. I have proposed an improvement plan for Enterprise that will increase
sales revenue if successful.

As the situation is real, the project for this class will include a formally written document that is
hypothetical to the situation. The document is text based and will include a home page, title
page, mission, plan objectives with methods on how to reach them, a timeline of when the
actions will need to be completed by, and references. The objectives are the goals that are
intended to be reached by the time the plan has fully taken effect and the methods will explain
the actions that will be necessary in order for the goals to be met. Since the document is text
based, I plan to submit it via email. The length of the business plan is expected to be 7-8 pages.

  
 

The proposed document will be text based, meaning the plan will need to be clear and concise.
The business improvement plan will be laid out in book format so that it will be clear and easy
to follow. Paragraphs will be kept from becoming too long and the methods sections will be in
the format of bulleted lists so the points stand out and to aid the reader in finding valuable
information. The objectives will come before the methods to give the reader an idea of what I
would like the outcomes to be by the time the plan is done. The methods will follow with
detailed information on how to achieve the objectives.




There will be two main visual aspects of this project. The first visual will include a timeline of
the actions that will need to be done and when to have them started and completed by. There
will be four main necessary actions which include rate changes, reward programs, specific
purchases, and the change in inventory. The expected time for the entire project (the
hypothetical project) will be 9 weeks. Within this time, Enterprise should see an increase in
sales revenue as compared to past months/years. The second visual component will be graphics
of the types of vehicles that will need to be purchased by the company. This will include
pictures of specific automobiles with detailed descriptions about them. It should give the
reader a good idea of what changes will be taking place

This type of writing assignment is like no other that I have done before, so I will expect to learn
a large amount while completing it. I am familiar with the rental car business, so I posses some
knowledge about how the business is done. However, I only have a limited amount of skill with
it. m

currently offer using the company websites.

J? I will learn the financial details of Enterprise and its local competitors at the specific
location of Hector International Airport in Fargo, ND through research.
J? I will be in contact with the manager (s) and conduct an interview about the business
and how the companies go about making choices in their departments.
J? I will learn how to formally handle an individual project using a text-based format.

more experience with the sales side of the business.

it is necessary for a company of this category to change their inventory.

I plan to take the knowledge that I currently have about the business and apply it to this project
and combine that knowledge with what I will learn to complete the assignment. The following
steps display what I will do to conduct my business improvement plan:

J? I will first obtain a monthly sales report directly from one of the rental car companies at
Hector International Airport. This includes the sales revenue generated by Avis, Budget,
Hertz, National/Alamo, and Enterprise.
J? I will conduct an interview with the manager of one of the other companies to gain a
better understanding of the business.
J? I will research rates/prices using each company website and compare them.
J? I will research the types of vehicles that each company offers and determine the
difference in inventories.
 J? I will research the different rewards programs that each company offers and compare
them.
J? I will examine Enterprise and determine the issues that are keeping the company from
expanding.
J? I will determine possible solutions to the issues that I found.
J? I will create an improvement plan that will aid Enterprise in economic growth by
suggesting possible changes that will benefit the company in the long-run.
