Ad Altare Dei activities outside of classes


Sacraments & Sacramental’s
● FR 1 Review with your parents what you learned from the readings and homilies and
how you plan to put what you learned into practice. Do this each Sunday over a period of
three weeks.
● FR 2 Obtain approval from your Counselor for one of the 4 options.
(It is recommended that if they chose poster or banner, options in many chapters, that the
Scout do something different occasionally than the same thing for every chapter)
● FR 3 Do two of the following (Retreat & Day of Recollection is recommended)
Attend a Retreat (It is recommended Scouts attend the Diocesan Retreat held the last
weekend of September) and (recommended)
Attend a Day of Recollection (Diocesan Day of Recollection held in January)
Complete crossword puzzle, appendix A, in Scout booklet

Diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting has made it


MANDATORY that a Scout attends the
Diocesan Scout Retreat or Day of Recollection

Sacraments of Initiation
Baptism
● Activity 2bi It is highly recommended that the class & Counselor attend a Baptism as a
group.
● Activity 5 Obtain approval from your Counselor for one of the 3 options.

Confirmation
● Activity 6 Obtain approval from your Counselor one of 3 options.
● FR 1 Obtain approval for your project from your Counselor.
● FR 2 Obtain approval for option b or c from your Counselor.
Eucharist
● Activity 8 Obtain approval for your good turn of sacrifice from your Counselor
● Activity 9b Obtain approval for your activity from your Counselor
● FR 1b Obtain approval for your project from your Counselor
● FR 2a (It is suggested to invite a Deacon or Priest to perform a Eucharist service for your
group)
● FR 2b Attend a Eucharist service with your family
● FR 3 Obtain approval for your activity from your Counselor

Appendix A

Sacraments of Healing
Reconciliation
● FR 1 Obtain approval from your Counselor for one of the 4 options.
● FR 2 See Appendix B for a sample prayer service.
● While not a requirement, it is suggested that each scout be encouraged to attend a
reconciliation service while working on the Emblem.

Anointing of the Sick


● Activity B4b Attend an Anointing of the Sick (normally done by each parish once a year,
some parishes do it more than once a year) It is highly recommended that you attend a
service instead of acting one out. Scouts will be surprised to see very young people, old
people and many that appear to have nothing wrong.
● FR 1 Obtain approval from your Counselor for your prayer and whom you wish to share
it with.
● FR 2 Obtain approval from your Counselor for your one month project. The counselor
should insure the project will not do more harm than good.

Sacraments of Service
Holy Orders
● Activity 1 It is highly recommended that the group and counselor attend the
Ordination of the Priest or Deacons, normally held in May or June at Sacred Heart
Cathedral
● Activity 5 Obtain approval from your Counselor for one of the 5 options. Option 5a is
recommended.
● FR 1 1a Obtain approval from your Counselor for your ministry project. The counselor
should insure that the project utilizes the strengths & gifts the scout possesses.
● FR 2 Obtain approval from your Counselor for one of the 5 options.

Marriage
● Activity 1 Attend a Catholic wedding. It is recommend the group and counselor
attends a wedding. Many are writing their own vows and choose unusual readings. It is a
good idea to compare the wedding vows to Appendix F in scout booklet.
● FR 1a Obtain approval from your Counselor for your activity.
● FR 2 Obtain approval from your Counselor for one of the 5 options.
