1.2 General Rules for Exchanging Information

Whenever the field service engineer requires support to the Uptime Center for solving a
problem in the field, there are a minimum amount of information that must be provided
both to correctly identify the problem and to speed up its solution.

1.2.1 System Configuration

Identify the unit serial number and reference, installed software version, board configura‐
tion, licenses, and any other information required to be provided to the Uptime Center for
evaluation. This information can be accessed from the System Configuration windows,
and exported as a .txt file. Perform the following steps to access this information and save
on a USB flash drive.

1. Turn the system on.

2. Press the MENU key and select the SYSTEM INFO option.
3. Press EXPORT to copy the information. The file will be named in the following format:
Unit[modelname]_[SN}[Unit S/N].txt (for example, UNIT7348_SN00052.TXT

1.2.1.1 System Information File Organization

The file can be divided in groups that are listed in the table below.

Troubleshooting Guide 1 11

1.2.1.2 Fault Description

The description of the fault has to be the more detailed as possible, since this simplifies
the problem identification and solution The following information should always be re‐
ported:
n When applicable, the active transducer.
n If the problem affects the imaging functioning, the active application and modality
(for instance, in cardiac application with Doppler PW).
n If the problem affects the non-scanning operations, the involved function (such as
measurements, annotations, report, and so on).
n If the problems is related to data archiving, the used support (internal Data Base, Di‐
com server..) and the kind of failure (data not transferred, missing data, and so on).
n If any background operation was running when the problem occurred.
n If the problem is related to the peripherals, the kind of peripheral and its failure.
n If the problem is during the upgrading procedure, the used procedure and the step.
n If the problem is intermittent and reproducible: whenever it is possible, it is extremely
useful for the fault identification to have a known operations sequence that always re‐
produces the problem.
Together with this information, the description should state all the steps that cause the
problem (for instance during 2D-CFM scanning with PA230 probe in Cardiac, the 2D sec‐
tor was reduced to 45˚, the CFM sector was set to concurrent. After having saved a clip
the scanning sector does not follow the movements of the trackball). Images and/or Clips
showing the problems are of course other useful items.

1.3 Log Files

The Log and Shut Down files are useful tools to be always sent to the Uptime Center.
The log file has to be saved soon after the problem occurs or, the latest, at the next start
up. The file has a FIFO (First In, First Out) structure with a limited memory availability:
when the log file memory is full, the oldest events registered in the file are eliminated to
free space for the recent ones.
For this reason the log file has to be saved as soon as possible.

1.3.1 Log Files Organization

The log files are organized in following twelve (12) folders:
n ApiTemp
n Dam
n DamOrganizer
n Dinamo
n MediaExport
n MediaRec
n PrintDispatcher
n Setup
n Star
n StarTemp
n Upgrade
n UserManagement

1.3.1.1 ApiTemp and StarTemp Folders

The files contained in these folders trace the main Windows operations, such as the oper‐
ation done Exam review (TempArchiveLog_0.txt) and in Archive review (MainArchive‐
Log_0.txt).

1.3.1.2 Dam Folder

The Dam folder traces the communication between the two (2) processor installed in the
unit. The folder contains the following files and folders:
n Dam Service_0.txt, that traces the communication protocol between the two pro‐
cessors. The system model and S/N, the installed software, the installed licences are
logged in this file
n Dam Service.bck, that contains the information on the far operations
n DamPrintFiles folder, that contains temporary files for printing operations

n DamTargetFiles folder, that contains temporary files for saved clips/images of the
current exam.
n Panoramic folder, that contains temporary files for saved Panoramic (VPan tool) im‐
ages of the current exam.
n ThreeD folder, that contains temporary files for saved 3D/4D clips/images of the cur‐
rent exam.

1.3.1.3 Shut Down Log File

The ON/OFF key activates the shut down procedure. This procedure has to be followed
before turning the unit off by pressing the main switch placed in the unit rear panel.

The ACUSON P300 system is a PC based system; data loss or driver damage may occur if
 the system is turned off while working. The shut down procedure avoids these prob‐
lems.

The Shut Down Log file allows the service to verify if the procedure is correctly followed.

1. Turn the system on with the service key inserted.

2. Enter Imaging and press ARCHIVE REV.
3. Press the Ctrl + Esc keys to display the Windows menu.
4. Select Document/My Documents option.
5. Navigate to the D: drive.
6. Navigate to Biolabwork>Dam. <NOTE: Probably different directory name..need to
check>
7. Display the DamShutDown_0 file by double-clicking the file name.

1.3.1.4 Data Organizer Folder

The Dam folder traces the exam copy process (COPY key). The folder contains the follow‐
ing files:
n DataOrganizer Service_0.txt, where the process operations are traced. Each copy op‐
eration is identified by an UID number. Any error, when present, after a certain UID
number can indicate which copy fails.
n DataOrganizerQueue.xml, where the queue of the copy operations is traced (“Opera‐
tions” option of the media menu).

1.3.1.5 Dinamo Folder

The Dinamo folder traces the DICOM conversion process of the exams. The folder con‐
tains:

n Dinamo-Dicom Service_0.txt file, where the failed operations are traced. Each Dicom
operation is identified by an UID number. Any error, when present, after a certain UID
number can indicate which operation fails.
n QueueSerial.xml file, where the Dicom operations are queued “Operations” option of
the media menu).
n Log folder, that traces the used Dicom libraries.

1.3.1.6 MediaExport Folder

This folder traces the AVI/BMP/JPEG/PNG conversion process (EXPORT key and the “Export”
option at the end of the exam). The folder contains the following files:
n MediaExport Service_0.txt, where the process operations are traced. Each export op‐
eration is identified by an UID number. Any error, when present, after a certain UID
number can indicate which operation fails.
n MediaExportQueue.xml, where the queue of the export operations is traced (“Opera‐
tions” option of the media menu).

1.3.1.7 Media Rec Folder

This folder traces the DVD recording process. The folder contains the following files:

1. MediaRec Service_0.txt, where the DVD recording process operations are traced.
Each DVD recording operation is identified by an UID number. Any error, when
present, after a certain UID number can indicate which operation fails.
2. MediaRecQueue.xml, where the queue of the DVD recording operations is traced
(“Operations” option of the media menu).

1.3.1.8 Print Dispatcher Folder

This folder traces the printing process. The folder contains the PrintDispatcher Serv‐
ice_0.txt file, where the various operations of the printing process are traced. Each print‐
ing operation is identified by an UID number. Any error, when present, after a certain UID
number can indicate which operation fails.

1.3.1.9 SetUp Folder

This folder logs the set ups of the software upgrade.

1.3.1.10 ThreeDLogs
The folder traces the main operations done in the 3D/4D environment.

1.3.1.11 Upgrade Folder

This folder logs the processes that automatically run at the first start up after an upgrade.
