Marcel Angelo “Gio” Delfinado After the appointment to the see of the Archdiocese of Lipa of the then Bishop of Daet, Most. Rev. Gilbert A. Garcera, D.D. and after two years of being “sede vacante”, the Diocese of Daet has a new shepherd in the Most Rev. Rex Andrew Clement Alarcon, D.D. after his appointment by the Holy Father Francis last January 2, 2019 as the fourth bishop of Daet and consecrated by the Most Rev. Rolando Octavius Joven Tria Tirona, O.C.D. on the Solemnity of St. Joseph, Spouse of the Virgin Mary last March 19, 2019 at the Metropolitan Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. The people of God of the local Church of Daet had rejoiced for the arrival of the pastor that had been the content of their prayers and indeed was blessed with a shepherd who is a servant-leader who lives up to his motto “Servus Tuus Sum”. Born in August 6, 1970 in Daet, Camarines Norte, Bishop Rex is the son of +Armando Alveus Alarcon, and of Juanita Culvera Clement and has 3 siblings namely: Reynard C. Alarcon, Armando C. Alarcon, Jr. and Ma. Catherine C. Alarcon from the family that traces their roots from Caramoan and Camarines Norte known for their superb musical abilities and at the same time having sons ordained as priests namely the illustrious +Rev. Msgr. Johny C. Alarcon and Rev. Fr. Juvenson C. Alarcon. He studied his philosophical courses in the Holy Rosary Minor Seminary, Pilgrim City of Naga and finished his theological formation in The University of Santo Tomas in Manila. He was ordained to the diaconate on Nov. 11, 1995 by the then Archbishop of Manila, +Jaime Cardinal Sin and to the priesthood on Nov. 9, 1996 by the then Archbishop of Caceres, Most. Rev. + Leonardo Legaspi, O.P., D.D. He then, obtained his Master of Art in Higher Religious Studies and Licentiate in Sacred Theology at the University of Santo Tomas and also the Licenza- Storia della Chiesa (Church History) at the Pontificia Universita Gregoriana in Rome. He is not only limited of being an intellectual who has obained ecclesiastical degrees but also he was given a lot of administrative and pastoral assignments from being a distinguished professor of Church History, Latin and Theology, seminary formator, secretary to the Archbishop, Parochial Vicar, member of various councils of the presbyterium and to being the well-loved director of the Naga Parochial School, he stays as the humble “Father Rex” to many people. At the occasion of his installation as the fourth bishop of Daet, he was greeted with great jubilation and thanksgiving to God by the faithful of the Local Church of Daet headed by then, Diocesan Administrator, Rev. Fr. Ronald Anthony P. Timoner, He conveyed his heartfelt and sincerest gratitude to everyone for the warm welcome for his homecoming and his message for all sets the tune of his leadership is “My motto Servus Tuus Sum, I wish to say it again, without the community, without the Church, the office of bishop means nothing. This grace is given to me because of you. If not for you, I would not be here. This canonical possession does not mean that I possess you. On the other hand, you possess me and as a good servant would say “ă su disposicion” I am at your disposal […] and please know my dear people of God in Daet, This is not only my motto, this is my prayer; That I may be your servant but more especially that I may be God’s servant. I pray let my service be an expression of my gratitude.” This marks the genesis of a new beginning of a episcopacy in the local Church of Daet. Service as the expression of gratitude.
