REPAIR PROCEDURE

I. SCOPE
This procedure applied on welding joint, bevel built-up and material defect (if
possible) for fabrication of Air Receiver, ordered by PT. Jaya Perkasa.

IV. PURPOSE
This procedure applied on welding joint, bevel built-up and material defect (if
possible) for fabrication of Air Receiver, ordered by PT. Jaya Perkasa. This
procedure describes of repairing tack weld, and weld found defective as result of
Non Destructive Examination or during Visual inspection. All unsound weld or
defective weld shall be removed from the equipment and replaced according to
approved repair procedure. The repair procedure shall be in writing and includes
information on method used for defect removal, inspection, welding procedures
and detail of NDE for repair area.

V. PROCEDURE
Repair welding, inspection and examination shall be performed in accordance with
the following procedure.
Removal of defect by chipping, grinding or gouging shall be done in such a manner
as to avoid reducing the adjacent base material thickness is reduced, it shall be
restored to its original condition.

Complete removal of defect shall be verified by NDE before repair is started.


Repair welding shall be performed only by qualified welder and using qualified
procedure. Repair of major defect and all repairing in plate or forging require prior
approval from Customer.

VI. KIND OF DEFECTS


VI.1. Unacceptable Fit up
Refit up, weld repair the thinner member and mismatch. The client
representative shall review before it is attemted.
VI.2. Unacceptable Weld
Weld found contain unacceptable flaws by visual / or other non destructive
methods shall be repaired by PT. Barata Indonesia. The client representative
shall approved acceptability of weld containing flaws.
VI.3. Correction of Cracks in Weld or Base Metal
Identify length of the crack by the of DC YOKE Magnetic Particle
Examination. Remove sound weld metal a minimum of 1 inch each and of the
crack starting outside the crack tip and working toward the center.
As general note, the use of thermal metal removal method will sometimes
cause crack to extend into sound material or cause new crack to extend into
previously sound material. The excavation shape shall be in accordance with
the approved qualified repair weld procedure.
VI.4. Defect Repair and Removal Requirement
Removal of weld metal or portions of the base metal shall be done by
machining, grinding or air carbon arc gouging. Oxyfuel gas gouging is not
permitted. The rmaining weld metal or base metal shall not be nicked or
undercut. Defective portion of weld shall be removed without substantial
removal of base metal.
VI.4.1. Exccesive Covexity or Overlap
Remove by grinding away excess weld metal.

VI.4.2. Excessive Concavity of Weld or Crack Undersize Weld


Clean and deposit additional weld metal using an approved weld
procedure. And shall be performed by qualified welder.
VI.4.3. Excessive Weld Porosity, Slag Inclusion Uncomplete Fusion.
Remove defective portion and re-welded.
VI.4.4 Arc Strikes
Repair by grinding followed Magnetic Particle Examination, The
thickness of material shall be within the required tolerance.
VI.5. Repair by Welding
For all welding process appropriate repair procedure review by QA/QC
Manager & Authorized Inspector approved by client shall beutilized. Surfaces
shall be cleaned thoroughly before welding. Work piece temperature for
repair welding shall be refer to approved welding procedure.
VI.5.1. Undercut Repair
Undercut can often be repaired by grinding, rewelding and than NDE
by PT or MT as per approved procedure.
VI.6. Inspection
After perform any repair, the result should be inspected by QC Inspector and
Autorized Inspector (AI) according to Repair Procedure, ASME Code,
Standar, NDE Procedure (If required).
