Scholarly and theoretical, yet understandable to today's students, educators, and anyone concerned with the future of

communication media, this is the only book that examines the irn pact of the digital revolution on all communication

media . . . and is both current and affordable.

From the Pine Forge Press Series:

Communication and Journalism for a New Century

"Mediamorphosis is the best overview and evaluation of the new cornrnurncation technology that I've seen . . . It is

the place to start, if you want to understand the Age of Cyberspace."

Mark R. levy, former Editor, Journal of Cornrnunication, and Director for Research in Public Communication,

University of Maryland

"Mediamorphosis will be required reading for rny students. More than most of today's books on new media,

Mediamorphosis presents a clearly articulated vision of the future of new media, including understandable epos

tions of the role of technology in shaping the future. Roger Fidler draws upon his personal experience to help the

reader understand that many visions of the future run aground for a wide variety of reasons."

A. Michael Noll, Professor of Communication, Annenberg School for Communication,

University of Southern California

"Vions of the future abound, and time will prove most less realistic than a Buck Rogers comic strip. In contrast,

Roger Fidler elaborates a set of intellectual tools with which we can analytically infer the most likely paths to the

future. Identifying the dominant traits of basic communication forms and the rna jor principles that have guided the

historical evolution of cornrnunication,Mediamorphosis applies these concepts to the onrush of technological and

social change in journalism and rnass communication."

Maxwell McCornbs,Jesse H.Jones Centennial Professor in Communications, University of Texas, Austin

"Mediamorphosis is an insightful and extremely useful analysis of the problems we face in creating new media and

genres in the cyberage. Provocative case histories provide a wonderful grounding for fidler's creative framework for

the enactment of a new media. This is a delightful book."

John Seely Brown, Chief Scientist for Xerox Corporation and Director of Xerox Palo Alto Research Center (PARC)

"Med10morphosis is the product of Roger Fidler's original mind and persistent explorations in the world of new

media and cyberspace. This is a book that goes beyond the theory of convergence into its past, present, and future

operations that affect media and people."
