Explain UJT as relaxation oscillator and its application to SCR firing circuit with
appropriate waveforms. 3)

Two thyristors are connected in parallel to share a total load current of Ii = 600A. The on
state voltage drop of on thyristor is VTI = 1 V 2)
at 300A and that of other thyristor is VT2 =
1.5V at 300A. Determine the value of series resistance connected to each thyristor to force
current sharing with 10% difference. Total voltage v is 2.5V.

(a) Explain the working principle of complementary (class C) commutation circuit with
waveforms of capacitor voltage, thyristor currents for one cycle with respect to gate
signals assuming that initially one thyristor was ON and the capacitor is initially charged
accordingly.

(b)Determine the conduction time of thyristor and voltage across the thyristor and capacitor
when it is turned off for the class A commutation circuit which is initially relaxed. Assume
the following parameters L = 12mH, C = 2512F, R = 052 and V = 200V.

(a)
An RL load, energized from single-phase, 230V, 50Hz source through a single thyristor,
has R = 1052 and L= 0.08H. If thyristor is triggered in every positive half cycle at a = 75°
find current expression as a function of time.
(b)
A single-phase fully controlled bridge converter with RLE load is supplied from 230V,
50Hz ac supply. The average load current is 5A which is constant over the working range.
Determine the firing angle for R
