TOPIC : A FEW OF MY FAVORITES

I. CONTEXT
The pupils can classify the names they know into names of a person, place,
animal or thing. They can also introduce themselves orally and in written form. This
week the pupils will learn that a name word could have an exact and not exact
name. These exact names are called proper nouns while not exact names are called
common nouns. They will also learn how to write proper nouns.
The pupils belong to a heterogeneous group. They are mostly visual, auditory
and bodily-kinesthetic learners.

DAY 1-

Specific Subject Matter/Skill: Common and Proper Nouns


Instructional Objectives:
1. Differentiate common and proper nouns.

A. Prelection:
1. Motivation:
Tell the class that they will have an activity by pair. Their seatmate will be
their partner. Every pupil will receive a piece of paper. In every paper, there are 4
questions:
1.1. What is your favorite pet?
1.2. Who are your best friends?
1.3. What are your favorite toys?
1.4. What is your favorite place?
Let the pupils write their name on the paper. Let them exchange papers
with their seatmates. They will take turns on asking those questions with their
partners.

Student Learning Activities:


1. Ask some pupils to share the answers of their partner. Write their answers on the
board.
2. Let the class classify the answers whether they are names of a person, place,
thing or animal.
3. Ask:
 How is the first letter of every word written?
 Do you know why a word is written in a small letter while the other is
in a big or capital letter?
 How do we use proper nouns?
4. A name word could be exact or not exact. Exact names are called proper nouns
while not exact names are called common nouns. The beginning letter of a proper
noun is written in a capital letter.

Instructional Objectives:
1. Tell whether a noun is common or proper.
3. Give a proper noun for a common noun and vice versa.

1. Recap day 1 activities.
2. Class Activity - The teacher will show a box filled with nouns. She will call
volunteers to pick out one noun and tell if it is a common or proper noun.

Student Learning Activities:


1. Give the class a worksheet where they have to identify if the given nouns are
common or proper.
2. Give a drill using a noun chart. The chart is divided into common and proper
nouns. Yet, the nouns are still incomplete, let pupils supply what is missing.

DAY 3-

Specific Subject Matter/Skill: Common and Proper Nouns/Days of the week/


Months of the year
Instructional Objectives:
1. Complete information about himself/herself and his/her family (e.g birthdays,
favorites).
2. Identify errors in writing common and proper nouns.
3. Write proper nouns beginning with capital letters.

1. Recap day 2 activities.

Student Learning Activities


1. Writing Activity – Complete information
2. Give the pupils a piece of paper with nouns written on it. There is a box beside
every noun. The pupils will put a happy face if the noun is written correctly while a
sad face if not.
3. Activity drill – The teacher will give the class a paper divided into two columns:
common and proper nouns. She will show noun cards, one at a time. The pupils will
write the nouns in the correct column observing capitalization for proper nouns.
4. Check pupils’ work.
5. Recap
6. Assignment: answer Exercise 2 on page 41.

DAY 4-

Specific Subject Matter/Skill: Common and Proper Nouns


Instructional Objectives:
1. Explain the importance of sharing one’s talent to others.
2. Give a proper noun for a given common noun.

1. Recap day 3 activities.

Student Learning Activities


1. Ask:
 Do you have a talent? What is this?
 Who gave this talent to you?
 What should we do with our talents?
2. Group the pupils according into 10 groups. Give them time to come up with a
short presentation to showcase their talent to the class. They will present during
the next meeting.
3. Activity drill – show the class sentences. Each sentence needs a proper noun. A
common noun will serve as clue so the pupils will be able to write its
corresponding proper noun.
4. Check pupil’s work.
5. Recap
6. Assignment: Study for a quiz. Bring crayons or colored pens.

DAY 5-

Instructional Objectives:
1. Categorize given nouns whether they are common or proper.
2. Give the proper noun for a given common noun.

IV. REFLECTION
Ask the pupils:
 What are your talents?
 How did you discover these?
 Who gave these talents to you?
 Cite ways on how you can thank God for giving these talents.

V. ACTION
The pupils will have a short talent presentation per group.

VI. EVALUATION
