Foundation For Peace

Last summer, I discovered an organization called Foundation For Peace, which offers
mission trips and humanitarian aid to third-world countries. During my ten-day trip, my
group and I did community service in the Dominican Republic.

We worked in construction, digging ditches, pouring concrete, and laying bricks in the hot
Carribean sun. We worked in a pharmacy, sorting medicine and helping the local doctor
organize medical forms. With the help of the community pastor, we held church services
for adults and children alike.

We volunteered at an orphanage that raises kids with physical and mental disabilities. The
facility accepts children from parents who are unwilling to care for kids with such
conditions. I read children's stories to the kids and told them about my own life in America.
I want to believe that I gave these children a memorable experience and a huge amount of
joy.
