i. Telsyte Australian Tablet Computer Market Study found that Apple iPad
sales bounced back in the second half of 2017 compared to a year ago (up 6%),
mainly due to a replacement cycle driven by the new budget-friendly 9.7″ iPad
and an overall increase in interest for the iPad Pro series, which has been
positioned as a PC replacement device.
ii. In Australia, tablets are used as a general-purpose internet device. They
are popular for a range of entertainment, research and general browsing
activities, and have a similar use profile to mobile phones and computers. They
are less popular than computers for communication (74 per cent used tablets
compared to 85 per cent using computers). Banking and finance activities are
more popular on mobile phones (49 per cent) and computers (68 per cent) than
tablets (38 per cent). Tablets are more popular than mobile phones for buying,
selling and shopping online (41 per cent used tablets compared with 33 per cent
using mobile phones) but less popular than computers (56 per cent) for these
activities

found sales of Android-based tablets continued to disappoint, falling by 16%
compared to the second half of 2016. Samsung and Lenovo held their positions
as the largest Android tablet vendors in Australia, but other device makers have
turned their focus to Windows 10 tablets and 2-in-1s in place of Android.

4. Google seems to have given up on pushing out its own Android tablets, settling instead
for Chrome OS tablets that can also run Android apps – and that's where the Pixel Slate
comes in.
The combination of Chrome OS and Android actually works pretty well, because you
get the full desktop web experience, plus everything from the Google Play Store as well.
Those Android apps really help when you're offline, for example.
As far as specs go, you can pack this with some really impressive internal components
– though of course you're going to have to pay for them. We'd advise going for the best spec
you can afford
