so I went out to Phoenix to try to do it

on my own to kick the habit of drugs and

I was not strong enough I prayed to

and picked me up so he gave me the love

within two weeks that I've been missing

all my life so I asked him to send me

away to get some help the first choice I

didn't agree with which was an

institution that Caucasians run in his

second choice was the Muslim rehab in

thought that because I was light skinned

and my mother was very dark that she

the very opposite that he thought mom

so many families and in this

misperception of love my mother gave me

the violin at five and a half years old

and gave my brother the piano at seven

years of age she took her stick and she

made my brother and me practice

well that was fine after a while I grew

to play the instrument

very well and by playing the instrument

very well I learned that people showed

me love they showed me

affection not because of me but because

learned that I could sing that I could

dance that I could do anything in show

it got me very popular among my peers so

I related more to my voice more to my

instrument then I related to my mother

to my brother because my instrument gave

me the love that I thought I missed my

voice and my talent gave me the

artists who relate more to the canvas

than they do to their mothers and

fathers we have brilliant basketball and

football players who relate more to a

basketball in a football or more to the

saxophone in the trumpet or more to

their boxing gloves or that which makes

them honored and respected then they do

to other human beings

and because of this misperceived love

and miss perceiving reality we need to

restructure our lives so I being a

musician practice 8 9 10 hours a day

think about that a young boy 11 and 12

years old who went to school and did my

homework and then got my instrument and

played into the night while others were

playing football and basketball and

baseball I had no time for foolishness I

had a mission in life which was to

become a master of my art and so I gave

up the world for my art now that is a

sacrifice but what was the motivation

for that sacrifice it was to lift myself

above a nonentity and most black people

have a desire to lift themselves above

being a nonentity so even if it's

selling drugs we want to be the best at

it if it's drinking whiskey we want to

show that we can drink more than anybody

else but we need something to show us

that we are in fact somebody and we do

it in such a sick manner that all of our

friendships all of our relationships are

tainted you have your best friend but

he's not your best friend because he's

your best friend he's your best friend

because you have a need and he supplies

that need but when that need changes you

drop that friend like a hot potato you

turn our back on God and say that God

friend and God takes the friend and

that God has done us something wrong

to pray anymore we are a people whose

needs are so great that we form

relationships based upon need and it

never gets to grow into love where it is

your friend whether you have money or

you praise me or you condemn me I love

our relationship with everyone even with

God and because of the conditions in our

place on my mother's love who loved me

unconditionally I didn't understand

her love and now that she is no longer

I see deeper now and it is sad but it is

true that you can always see better

after the veil of flesh and blood has

will a need to be honored but as we

the proper and right motivation good is

not always what it appears to be good is

only good when it comes from a pure
