Q1 .DIFFENRENTIATE SURFACE WAVES FROM BODY WAVES.

BODY WAVES travel through the interior of the Earth. On the other hand,
SURFACE WAVES propagate only at the interface between two different media,
like the interface between Earth and atmosphere.

Q2. WHICH TYPE OF WAVES DO YOU THINK WERE USEFUL TO

SEIDMOLOGISTS IN THEIR STUDY OF THE EARTH’S INTERIOR?
EXPLAIN YOUR ANSWER.

BODY WAVES is the type of wave which are useful for the seismologists in
studying in the interior of the Earth. BODY WAVE has two sub-types, p -wave
(primary wave) and the s-waves (secondary waves). P-wave and S-wave can travel
the interior of the Earth. Primary wave can travel in any medium (solid, liquid, gas)
while S-wave can travel only in solid medium. Known the characteristics of P and
S wave, scientists were able to identify which layer of the Earth is solid and liquid.
