REACTION PAPER

OF THE MOVIE
“BEAUTIFUL MIND”

“Beautiful Mind” is a movie that was first aired in year 2001. It is a blockbuster and enlightening
depiction of a terrible and mind-boggling journey of a struggling schizophrenic genius mathematician named
John Nash who contributed his amazingly known “game theory” that gave him the Nobel Prize award in year
1994. His discovered theory was widely used in the field of economics, evolutionary biology and more.

John Nash is a brilliant but somewhat arrogant and antisocial man, he prefers to spend his precious time
on his thoughts, in creating and developing his original idea and study in the library alone than going to his classes.
This character of John Nash stayed in my mind and made me realize how independent he was for doing things all
by himself together with his genius mind but on the other side of the coin I do constantly believe that being part
of a group, meeting friends and studying with them and attending social gatherings can help an individual grow
socially because it is also important to have time to spend with people foe “no man is an island,” we are living in
this world not only for ourselves but in order to communicate and share things with people.

The genius mathematician has a disease called paranoid schizophrenia and it was portrayed in the movie
how hard it is for the protagonist identify the real people from fake ones. He had vivid hallucinations that he
thought was real. It was such a heartbreaking scene when he was still not accepting the fact the he possesses that
disease that the three persons who keeps on following him was not real at all. But I’m very proud on how Alicia,
his wife was constantly in love, loyal, persevering and strong for John Nash. Through the constant and undying
support of Alicia to his husband he learned that he has his own support and strength system and it is his wife and
the scene that Alicia keeps encouraging John Nash to try again to control his hallucinations was so heartwarming
and sweet, she didn’t let go and together they fight against the disease.

I really love the Nobel Prize acceptance speech of John Nash that says, “ I’ve always believed in numbers,
in equations and logics that leads to reason but after a lifetime pursuits my most important discovery of my life
is that it is only on the mysterious equations of love that any logical reasons can be found.” Indeed! it is definitely
true because as a couple they both proved it and justify that sometimes what someone needs is not a brilliant mind
to speak but a patient heart to listen.
