FOR THE PROGRESS OF OUR NATION

It is every Filipino’s aim and dream for nation to become progressive and successful. Being progressive
and successful doesn’t mean being wealthy and having all the fortune in the world. It is much more than that if
every Filipino dreams for our nation to become progressive, it is LOVE; love of God, love of country, love of the
environment and nature and love of the fellowmen. With this, it is clear that a Filipino like that is a Makadiyos
(Godly), Makatao (Humane), Makabayan (Nationalistic) and Makakalisan (Nature Lover). These are the basic
values that a Filipino must have to help drive and bring our nation to progress and success.
Firstly, it all starts with the Almighty God and having strong faith in Him. He becomes our refuge
whenever we experience problems. It is important because you cannot dream for something alone. We need His
love and guidance and that is through having faith in Him. We don’t know what might happen the next day in our
lives. We don’t know what will happen tomorrow to our nation, but we know He is always there to help us when
we are in times of difficulties. He is always there to protect us, to protect our nation if we just pray in Him.
Second is being Makatao. It simply means by respecting each other's rights and opinions regardless of the
existing differences in between. We, the Filipinos are naturally kind, gentle, generous, hospitable, hardworking,
obedient and polite which made a great impact to the world. Having these characteristics as a Filipino will no
doubt help in nation building in order to be progressive. Being understanding to one another will bring no chaos.
Having no trouble will bring peace. And having peace will drive us more to become a Makabayan Filipino citizen.
Respecting the laws and the government, having the love of our country, unity and equality are just some
of the characterizations of being a Makabansa or Makabayan citizen and these are very important in shaping our
nation to a better future. Through these, we can promote common good or the general welfare. The common good
refers to policies, decisions, and actions that are beneficial for most or all citizens in the country. In a democratic
country like the Philippines, Filipino citizens are expected to work towards the good of all citizens, rather than
trying just to maximize personal gain. Promoting common good is also promoting social harmony, cooperation,
and friendship among citizens.
Last, but not the least is being Makakalikasan. It is having a caring attitude towards the environment and
loving the nature. Our country is very rich in natural resources. We may not be economically wealthy or
developed, but we have the a lot of natural resources that are wanted to be claimed and owned by some other
countries which isn’t right at all because it belongs to us. However, being a nature lover is not just all about that.
It is a very broad concept which generally means having concern for and love of environment. How can a country
be progressive if is not clean to begin with? How can the country progress if its people are not conserving the
resources and the energy?
Being makatao, makadiyos, makakalikasan and makabansa is important and it is the way that we can help
appreciate nature, other people, our beloved country and most especially our love for our Lord God. We should
be proud for what we are and for what we have. But, we can prouder and even grateful if we contribute in the
achievement of our nation’s progress.
