Title : Songs can Affect One's Mood

Music is known very close to human life, music has a significant influence in human
emotionality. Music and emotions are two things that closely related. According to research
conducted by Lewis, Dember, and Schefft Raden Hausen aims to prove the influence of
music with emotion. This study separates between music and video in both positive and
negative categories. The results of music research have a great influence while the video does
not affect the emotions. Music with positive result category in positive mood enhancement
and the opposite (Ayu Auliya, 2015, para. 4). Every person consciously or unconsciously
enjoys the music in their daily life. There are pros and cons of arguing about people who are
addicted to listening to the sad songs on their psychology.
The music scope is widespread, not only for entertainment, even now music has
penetrated into the business world, the expression of feelings, or the changing psychological
conditions. Often listening to the sad song will have a negative effect on the listener, life
becomes not exciting. Like a song with a slow rhythm, life will be bored if you continue to
hear the song is upset. It seems, there is nothing interesting that can make you excited and
encouraged to enjoy the day (Damarasri Ajeng, 2018, para. 5). In addition to making not
productive, the frequency of listening to the song can also make the excitement to live much
reduced. The mellow atmosphere created from sad songs also influences your psychic
condition in daily activity. The more you hear it, the more you will feel that all sadness is
appropriate for us to feel and continue to blame yourself. As a result, negative emotions in
yourself will affect the way your life with a weak mentality.
The other impact is resulting in prolonged stress. While listening to sad songs, people
tend to notice the lyrics of the song and sing along. At the same time, the brain will work to
remember the past and the memories that occur especially those associated with the song.
Even though you have forgotten it, the memories will bring you back to a figure that once
gave color to your life. Therefore, turns out mellow song can be cause of stress. It is because
the mellow music when heard can raise the hormone cortisol in the body. The hormone
cortisol is a hormone that regulates the stress on the body, and if there is an increase in the
death of the body cells.
In the other hand, listening to the mellow song for sad people will have the positive
effect to them. The sad song can affect the listener out of trouble or difficulty they faced. A
beautiful melancholy song can be a good tool for expressing your sad expression. A theory
reveals when your negative emotions arise, like sadness, there is a mechanism in the brain
that is triggered to inhibit the reaction from feelings of displeasure (Perdana Satria, para. 9).
Then, your sad feeling will not drag on. Feelings of trauma or sadness when listening to a sad
song will remind them that they once faced a worse problem and in fact, they are still fine.
Melancholy music can make the listener get positive emotions. Listening to the sad song, the
listener will express their expression by releasing the sadness. It is not with a negative action,
it can either contemplate or ask someone else for help in encouraging them. The music
listener realizes the difference between reality and what is portrayed in the song. This
distinction allows the listener to sense negative emotions in their mind, without making them
behave negatively. In Medical Daily, Kay Norton said that “music has the same shape and the
same flow as human emotions. This type of music can encourage someone who is mourning
to cry or express emotion in the right way for them” (Perdana Satria, para. 3).
In my view, people who listen to the sad song has many reasons. It could be people
listen to sad songs to feel comfortable and deal with feelings of upset, but some also just
listen to it for pleasure. Sad songs have the potential to set the mood and negative emotions,
as well as provide entertainment. It means that sad songs can play a role in one's happiness.
Although listening to sad songs can make feel more comfortable, you should not have too
long to listen to this nuanced song. When you feel better, immediately listen to more fun
songs. Often listening sad song have the negative effect on the psychological of the listener.
Trying to feel the wisdom of the sadness that we experience can also help us calmer and more
easily move to a new phase. Listening to positive and happy songs can increase our
happiness. As a result, listening to sad music triggers a bad impact on the listener, both
psychologically and also in the course of their life.
