The Opportunity
The Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) provides advice to the Australian Government to
protect Australia, its people and its interests in today’s complex and changing world. To be successful in
this mission, we need talented people who are highly capable, dedicated, adaptable and resilient.
We are seeking people who have proficiency in the following languages to be employed as Foreign
Language Analysts:
Arabic;
Chinese;
Indonesian;
Farsi; and
Russian.
Foreign Language Analysts work as part of a diverse team to provide direct support to ASIO’s
investigations, operations and international partnerships.
Apart from having high level language proficiency, Foreign Language Analysts use sound judgement and
strong analytical skills in order to identify valuable information and communicate it effectively to those
who need it. Through their work, Foreign Language Analysts develop unique perspectives which are drawn
upon to inform decision-making and directly contribute to protecting Australia.
High level skills in the above languages, particularly listening, reading and translation skills;
Analytical and critical thinking skills;
Sound report writing skills in English;
Ability to work with a range of technologies; and
Strong interpersonal skills and willingness to work in a team environment.
Please note foreign language skills will be subject to initial and subsequent periodic testing.
